I am trying to determine if MANY of the sideways photo's have to do with downloading them to an ipad and then uploading them to the Forum (resized or not). Why the ipad? The ipad was designed with the premise that users would using it for text based information (that was before video was popular). So screen output was more for the printed page format (think 8.5x11 or called portrait) height greater than width. Most other devices have adopted a screen design that is targeted towards video or landscape displays where the width dimension is greater than the height. POTENTIALLY, the Forum software when adjusting the uploaded images is assuming that the longer dimension of the image is the horizontal value which causes all images to be have the long dimension to be the horizontal edge. In the case of ipad images the long edge is the vertical edge so it shows up sideways. If you notice that
There are other possibilities, just exploring this one.

So if you have one of these and plagued with uploaded photos turning sideways - it may be why
iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air 2, 2017 iPad (5th Generation), iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, 9.7-inch iPad Pro any with 4:3 aspect ratio.

The problem might also happen with digital cameras with settings set to portrait or landscape with the camera orientation opposite

Large photos are another issue by themselves
There are maximum values for the size in bytes and width in pixels that are set by the sites administrator

all are PDF files
That's your problem. A pdf file is not a photo - it is a document. Portable Document Format - pdf. Great for instructions manuals, no good for pics. Use jpg, gif, or png for all picture formats.

I am having the same problem Donald (fordorgalore) had. I used to post just fine with the current software and without any changes on my part it stopped accepting my photos. The error was one saying it cannot read the size of the photos. I have tried a large number of changes much as Donald did and the program is still having a problem. Yes it is a MTFCA software problem as I am doing everything how it used to work. My files are within the data and dimension size, all are PDF files.

This is a real frustrating thing and I bet lots of folks are giving up on it. I did find that the photos load fine and can be viewed at the end of a post as an attachment, but they refuse to be entered into the post text as we used to do. This is whilst using a desktop machine. I think it will still post from my phone. I would appreciate the webmaster cluing us into why this is happening and how to fix it.

You sent me the pics and I posted them with no problem so it has to be local you!

Here they are again and I’m doing this from my iPhone this time. PC last time.

Have you tried Chrome?

This is really frustrating. I built and repaired computers for 15 years. I never came across a issue I couldn't fix. I know how to post in this forum but its not accepting my images. I've resized, renamed and refiled them to no avail. I've changed them from BMP to JPG to JPEG and nothing works. There is most likely a simple answer but my eyes have glazed over....

Like a lot of us old farts, I'm not attuned to change, as in this forum format. But, I have to admit, the "drag and drop" feature for pics is as about as good, and easy as it gets. Don, just bring up your pic file in a smaller box, so it doesn't totally cover the forum text box, find your picture you want to post, hold down your mouse (or trackpad as in my Apple), and just "drag" it over to any part of this text box and let go! It'll automatically load it in. You won't see it here when you do, but it'll show up below this box in a list. When you "preview" (if you do, which I recommend) it will show up then. Easy Peezey!! I have no idea though how else to do it other than use the "attachments" button below if you're using a phone or maybe even a tablet. Good luck!

There are different ways of posting photos. Here's the one I use:

Below the composition box click Attachments.

Click Add files.

Screen shot 2019-05-11 at 8.33.19 AM.png
That opens a window you use to find the picture file on your computer. Click on the file you want and click Open.

That should do it. The status should be a green check mark. If it's a yellow triangle there should also be a note about what's wrong with the file. Usually that has something to do with file size and I downsize the file a bit. This almost never happens. Usually the file uploads with no problem,

Next click Place inline. The name of the file will appear in the composition box. You can click Preview to see it.

I can add photos with my IPad without doing anything to them. On my PC I need to save the photo as a gif file and then reduce its file size using Paint until it can be loaded.

Photo Frustration!!!

by FordorGalore » Sat May 11, 2019 6:14 am

I can't get one picture to post on this fancy dan forum....everytime I get this yellow triangle under the status with the following note.

It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct.

Any one have any idea what is going on here. I can post with no problem on several other similar forum websites.

Thanks in advance.
