Hi Tom,
The hole in the plunger is to allow a short length of chain to be attached to the plunger and the other end secured to one of the bell's mounting screws.
This feature provides a means to prevent the plunger from coming out of the bell and being lost.

Re: How rare and how much should I pay for a Stromberg OF Heater attachment pipe?
How important is the Hot Spot, on the intake manifold? I would think that, with our modern fuels being better than fuels of yore, the Hot Spot is not needed. Does the Stromberg have a greater venturi effect, run colder and thereby is more likely to suffer carburettor and manifold icing? This inquir...

Cross country camping in my Model T is on my bucket list. Tent camping would involve less weight than pulling a camping trailer, but pitching a tent in the rain and or breaking camp in the rain seems less than joyous. I know, I know, this wimpy talk from the same guy who will gleefully drive...

This shell does have a bit of damage, which I will show in the pictures. I took many pictures and will include them in several posts below. This shell is made of brass and those of you with brazing skills better than mine will be able to repair this shell and then have a fine example. 20220402_1722...

It really is important to properly secure and protect any package. A rebuilt short block was shipped from the left coast to me, here in The Shire. Rips and tears in the plastic roused my suspicion. 102_2789a.jpg The block was secured to a modest "pallet" of boards with another board taped to the to...

Lenny Smith (R.I.P.) donated that snowmobile to the museum. When he acquired it there was no strap. After a few years of use, the cab became just a tad rickety. The ratchet strap was an expedient method of (literally) keeping it together. Aside from the occasional repairs and necessary maintenance,...

I think that Erik Johnson has it right; that the term "Torpedo" was used somewhat broadly to refer to runabouts and touring cars which had a body with a lower profile and lower seating than "regular" body styles.
The Metz Company called my 1914 Model 22 a Torpedo Runabout.
