Made my own TruFire copy last year, used a VW smart coil to fire the plugs and a Anderson timer. It worked but not the best, the smart coil's dwell is set by the ECM. I tried my best to mimic the dwell I needed but I don't think it was right.

Well I have the same car sitting in my garage and I believe mine is a 16 with the port windows, so I guess the Connecticut coupelet would be a 16 also? My car looked the same when I picked it up and still looks the same except for a new top and interior. I prefer original cars over restored.

I use a Arduino Nano running a simulated rpm program to "trick" the ECU to fire the injector when hand cranking. Once it starts the ECU takes over.

Re: Final dumb Magneto question for the weekend

I experienced poor results using the field coil to recharge my magnets, instead I found a dedicated magnet charger through my club. Using a 12v lawn tractor battery I've recharged all of them individually then checking to see if they can lift a cast iron piston, all passed.

Re: The Truth about Triple Gear Pins?

I was not planning to take the flywheel apart but I had to re-magnetize the magnets, in doing so I found two cracked magnets. So I said if I have the flywheel apart I might as well replace the pins. Either they were replaced in the 50's when G'pa rebuilt the engine or they are original from 1911. To...

The Truth about Triple Gear Pins?

I removed the magnets from my 11's flywheel to check for cracks (found two bad ones) so I I'd like to replace the triple gear pins as they have about .001 to .0015 out of round condition. I found a set of new pins in my stash but I think they are factory size. They measure .686 at the 1/8" step and ...

I do quite a bit of camping with a T and as long as there are no low bridges you can stack it to the rafters with stuff, of course the more you carry the more it slows you down. The more you go camping the more you realize that you don't really need a whole lot of stuff also you come to realize tha...

The Future meets the Past

I'm stuck in two times, the past and the future. While I own two model t's I work in Aerospace making high tech components. So naturally I like to apply my knowledge to the past. Last year we bought a 3D plastic printer at work to try out, at first I was skeptical that we could find a use for it. Af...

Re: Mag Particle Results - 1911 Crankshaft

Sure I'll buy another crank as long as you want to sponsor me, not going to happen with my budget. When I picked it up the tech put it back in the mag machine and showed me the linear surface cracks, he said he found no radial cracks of any kind. I surmise they've been there for 107 years so why cha...

Mag Particle Results - 1911 Crankshaft

Here are the results from the mag particle test on my 1911 crankshaft. No radial indications, linear indications show up on some of the journals. Should I be concerned? or are these surface cracks that can be polished.

In the process of repairing the transmission out of my 11 touring, the original clutch/brake drum has worn lugs and I don't feel good about filing them. I do have a very nice 26/27 drum that I want to use instead. I know that I have to turn the wider drum down and use different clutch discs. What el...

Christmas 2019 Light Tour - Failure

I've started a family tradition by touring our town looking at Christmas lights for the past three years, this year Carl had a little trouble. I'm showing the aftermath, luckily it wasn't the crank that broke. Don't worry he'll be back on the road in a few months. 1370

Re: Nebraska Leather license plate Value

Interesting information, my grandfather collected Nebraska plates and there are a couple of leather plates remaining from his collection. I took pictures of them a few years back, I'll have to dig them up. My 11 touring has three 27 Nebraska plates under the front seat spring.

I've switched to straight 30w Supertech, very affordable. Don't have too much to worry about in California, temps never dip very low. I tried 15w-40 Rotella but found it was hard to crank the t over so I switched to 30Wt.

My 11 touring that I got from my g'pa had APCO's already installed with grease fittings. Not sure if he did it (highly unlikely) but the front end is still tight after fifty years of service. I normally give a shot of grease every few months.

Re: Model T coil tester advice: HCCT, Strobo-Spark, ECCT

I bought the ECCT with all the bells and whistles, with two cars I thought it would be good investment. Both of my cars run great, one with a roller timer and the other with an itimer. I also verify my coils at different rpm ranges.
