Re: Question about axle shaft length 1912 Runabout
Swapped the wheels, no difference. I have not been into the rear axle, assuming previous owner restored it properly. However, I think it worthwhile to unbutton it and see what's going on. For all I know, it has the babbitt thrust still in it. Something isn't right, and there is really only one way t...

John, I haven't been inside this rear axle as it had been rebuilt by the previous owner who was pretty fastidious about things, or so I always believed. Always a chance he could have done something incorrectly-we are all human, after all. Seems like it needs to be opened up and gone through. Hubs ar...

Question about axle shaft length 1912 Runabout
I have run up against something that is puzzling me on my 1912 Runabout (pictured) which I am re-restoring. Trying to get everything mechanically "just right" before I put sheet metal back on. I went through the rear axle brakes and got them cleaned up and set right. Then when I went to put the whee...

John Heaman, I apologize for MY comment that perhaps came across as snarky. I commented that the OP got extra points from me for not painting his car red. Re: Is a 1911 Built With Many NonOriginal Parts Worthy of being Here?
To directly answer your question: "is it even "worthy of being called a 1911 Model T Ford?"
I would describe it as a 1911 Model T Ford and, if necessary (such as if selling or God forbid a snob show), add caveats such as later engine, etc. But I would call it an 11 Model T. It sure looks like one.

Here's my nickel's worth: I think it is a darn good looking car that I for one would be proud to own. While it may not have all the 1911 hardware like the engine, rear axle, etc. it sure looks like an early brass car. A lot of brass cars out there have later engines and other parts as the owner may ...

Re: need early camera photography gurus, experts, or amateurs.
Ansel Adams used a Korona view camera, much like the one you show in the pictures. His was not a dry-plate camera and I believe he used his in the 30's and 40's but I have no idea how old his camera was at that point. Here is some information on his equipment: https://alexgubski.com/ansel-adams-phot...

Who was at fault in the accident? I assume it was the other guy. If so, the other guy's insurance company needs to cover everything, and maybe then some. Where are those personal injury lawyers when you need them?

Re: Steve Jelf Update 10/21/2023
I am praying for good results for Steve. I am confident he will be OK. My father developed a subdural hematoma about 20 years ago and became paralyzed (temporarily) as a result while visiting relatives in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was admitted to St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, and as luck would h...

Don't bother buying a reproduction switch. Find an original if you can't get yours working right. Trust me on this, I speak from experience.

Wrist Pin Lubrication in Jahns Pistons
I am going through my 1912 engine that was put together by the previous owner. He appears to have done a good job, but let's just say I am changing some things to suit my "preferences." Looking at the wrist pin setup in these Jahns pistons, I don't see a lubrication hole to catch oil from the splash...

Which Spark Plug to Use in Early Low Head
I have a 1912 with original engine. My question is what type of spark plug do you folks with the early Model T "low" heads run? My understanding is that the early heads had a moderately higher compression ratio. In the photo below there is a repro Champion X on the left, and an earlier Champion X or...

Securing Camshaft Seal in Timer Cover
I am planning to use the modern camshaft seal in my timing gear cover. However, it is quite loose in the bore. Not a huge amount, but loose enough and certainly not a press fit. What do y'all use/recommend for securing the seal? I have an idea, but wanted to check with the folks who have done this.

Re: Close Call.....Almost Done In
I have hesitated to post anything since Steve Jelf's misfortune, but I too had the same type of wreck that nearly killed me. I still hurt from that wreck 14 years later. Broken ribs, broken femur, embedded glass shards, and brain injury. I was driving a 1931 Model A Roadster and a guy suddenly pulle...

Congratulations on your beautiful 12 Roadster, Richard. It looks fabulous and you must have quite a sense of accomplishment. You can't post too many photos of that beauty! Good luck with the top-I will be facing that part of the restoration in about a year.

Magneto work on my 12 Roadster. One of the more tedious jobs on a Model T, IMHO, but you just gotta have a working mag!

Steve- I too have run into those oddball sizes (oddball by today's standards, anyway) and have asked the same question you are asking. I don't know why Ford utilized these particular sizes (23/32"? Really?). Perhaps those sizes were more common in the day, or perhaps cheaper from the suppliers (some...

Richard- The 12 Commercial Roadster I have has the sill plates in them. I don't know if the previous owner used reproductions or originals in his original restoration, but they are fairly long and skinny, more along the lines of the pair on the far right of Kim Dobbins' photo. If it would be of any ...

Re: Applying power directly to a starter
As noted, your bendix could be locked up due to a bent starter shaft. Try turning it over with the hand crank to see if the engine turns over. Some years ago I fell for the advice to convert to 12 volt, and all I got out of it was a bent starter shaft. If all connections are clean and tight, 6 volt ...

Old Photo Brass Cars in Aberdeen, South Dakota
I came across this image of Aberdeen SD taken back in the early 1900's. The county courthouse is still standing. I see some Model T's, although whoever colorized this old black and white photo took some liberty with the colors. What year do you suppose that touring car on the far right is? Maybe my ...
