That is what I was thinking, but it isn't built quite right to mount on a lathe "as is". I have been looking around for a while, and am starting to think it is an ID grinder attachment for for on old Covel grinder. I might make a fixture to adapt it to my lathe.

Help identifing a machine tool.

I was able to get this tool from a school who was getting rid of things. I know it is some kind of belt driven grinder, but I am not sure its exact purpose or what tool to use it on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mack and Allan,

The 28' AA did indeed use wire wheels. I believe they were manufactured by Budd. Then later in 28 or early 29 they were shifted to "disk" wheels with five lobes cut out of them-also by Budd. Both of these wheels were attached via lugs. I hope this helps.

Unless I am missing something, I would think you would need to measure them before presuming they are TT. The angle brackets look the same as on the car.

I think the two l-brackets are used to connect the front cross member to frame. Those would be R and L specific. I have no idea for the other piece.

I worked with Elizabeth (the lady from classtique) to do the upholstery on my 23 touring. If it helps any, I have some pictures of the various layers as it went together. I also remember that there was a decent bit of sewing by hand to be done in there too. Let me know.

Kingpin/spindlebolt adjustment

Just cleaning and inspecting the front end and was wondering the proper procedure. I have always put the spindle bolt in until it bottoms out, but is not tight. Then I tighten the bottom nut. Is this correct? How should this be done?

The drawing posted says optional. Was this cork band something that was installed at the factory? I removed the tank from a car that I am fairly sure was never dismantled, and saw no signs of this. I imagine that if they had rotted away, then the tank would have been loose in the bands?

I used a harbor freight 20 ton press without a problem. I did have one particularly stuck gear that required penetrating oil all night before it pressed off. Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your acquisition. Others will have different opinions, but I prefer to tie the car down by the front and rear springs. This prevents the bending of either axles which bend easily, and it prevents the car from bouncing the whole trip.

I had nearly the exact same problem a month ago. The brass insert is probably stripped like mine was. Try pulling hard as you try to unthread the sight gauge and I bet it will come out.

Both the front and back seat springs hang from fabric straps nailed into the tack rail. I do not have any dimensions, but I know you need to have it just high enough for the seat cushion to seat in properly.

Scott was the closest. I called Steve at Lang's and he told me the castings were made oversize to take up wear in the brake cams. Because my brake cams were new I ended up grinding 3/64'' of each shoe where the cam rids.

Your are correct.
This is how I did my engine. I believe it has something to do with lubrication. There is also supposed to be a slit in the piston side, but I do not recall which side it should be on.

you have a beautiful car, and I really enjoy your updates. Looking at your pictures, it looks to me like the piston wrist pins are orientated in the wrong direction. If I'm correct, they should be on the camshaft side. Hopefully somebody else will chime-in with an answer.

John, I am rather certain the radiator is original, it has been on there at least 63 years as I am the third owner. Prior to restoration I drove it approximately 500 miles in one summer. It only boiled over once due to a water pump. (Which is now hanging on the wall). Thanks for asking.
