i think it is smart to measure the piston clearance, the pistons looks a little bit tight in the bore.
if you replace the rings always re hone the bores to make sure you got a good seal with the new rings.

watch out with cooling hot metal with water, it schrinks more than it expans more than the Original size.

i think a leak test is a better option than a compression test at tis stage.
you can check easy if the valves are leaking or pistion rings.
