Re: White tires...where do things stand now?
About three years ago I purchased 4 'NON SKID's along with the required "new and improved" tubes. For the first year they stayed quite pristine. After 12 months, I noticed a slight degradation of the white color. This degradation has slowly continued. As of today, they are an "off white", but to be ...

Re: Tools to take with you on a Model T drive?
Having grown up on a farm in Iowa, we happened to have an old John Deere wire tie baler. So obviously, we had plenty of baling wire around the farm. Many times, when people use a saying, such as "held together with baling wire", I wonder how many people have even seen baling wire, let alone, used it...

Re: FJ - New Model T Owner In Warrensburg, Missouri Could Use Some Help
I would suggest contacting the local Model T club, The KC Chuggers. Their President is Frank Kelley, who is a true gentleman, and always willing to help people. Their website is kcchuggers.com and Frank's phone number is listed there. Welcome to Model T world.

Re: is a resistor needed in a 12 volt system
Wait a second... I have owned a '13 Touring for 6 years running a 12 volt system, driven it hundreds of miles, and never had a problem with burning out the coils. I also follow this Forum even closer than I monitor the "People of Wal-Mart" site, and this is the first time that I have ever read about...

HELP!!! I Need a Pair of 1913 Sill Reinforcement Brackets
I have a 1913 Touring, and am in need of the reinforcement brackets that Ford provided to fix that problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Great picture!
But who is that guy in the yellow shirt.
John, your enthusiasm both from a family level and from a club basis is infectious.
Clearly, your Model T is a "Smile Machine".

Re: Top install question
Preventing wrinkles is deceptively simple. Spray scotch adhesive to the inside curve of the bows and then apply the fabric. Once it has dried, you can stretch and wrap the fabric up over the outside edge, stapling as you go. Only wrap the fabric almost halfway across the outside edge, so when you wr...

Andre,
I am not sure of what you are saying. The thread you are referencing is probably from where my friend saw the gap in the bands. I am assuming that you feel this is a good way to do Kevlar bands.

Re: An Alternative Way to Install Transmission Bands
Lads, Thanks for the feedback. The statements about original Ford bands ring hollow when you consider the difference between cotton and Kevlar bands. I guess what I am asking is, if members feel that having that separation of band material would allow for better oil perfusion, and hence, protection ...

An Alternative Way to Install Transmission Bands
I am in the process of replacing the bands in my '13 Touring. A friend of mine sent me the photograph below showing a gap in the bands. The picture came from the website of Kohnke Re-babbiting. Clearly Mr. Kohnke is a Model T expert, which gives him great credibility. What is the opinion of other ex...

Thanks Dan, I thought about that, and a friend in our Model T club (KCChuggers) reminded me that even in an axle break, if you had disc brakes, the calipers would prevent the wheel from coming off. I resisted the thought of disc brakes... but then, Frank drove home the wisdom, "safety trumps authent...

Allan,
I believe these are not ball bearings, but rather timkin. They seem a bit pricey, but why not use the best technology available, especially if it doesn't affect the look of the car.

Are the sealed inner and outer bearings worth the expense? I have never talked to someone who has them, so I am wondering about the users' experience on this forum.

Towing a Model T
Whenever I am driving our Model T on a busy highway, my wife serves as the "caution" vehicle, following me with her caution lights flashing. In the event of having a breakdown, it might be advantageous to be able to tow the car to, let's say... a service station. I certainly realize that towing a Mo...

Re: Stopping oil stains before they happen?
Explosion and death cannot occur if you are using a true epoxy coating (one which uses a part "A" and a part "B"). It does not 'dry', but rather a chemical reaction 'cures' the coating. There is no outgassing as with traditional coverings such as oil based paints.

Re: Stopping oil stains before they happen?
Almost 10 years ago I applied a product called EPOXY-COAT on the floors of my garage and workshop. It covered well and has held up to a lot of abuse. I must admit that in a couple of places, where I did not clean the floor well, the coating has been compromised. I used two coats, applied using the '...

Any insights?

Re: Non-skids vs standard tread
I have "NON SKID"s on my '13 Touring. It does not matter how fast they wear, my experience is that women really find them very 'sexy'. I always get lustful looks, wanton gazes, and proposals for me to come 'back to their places', when they see me with my car & white non-skids. Unfortunately, their '...

Darren,
I don't think your horn is period correct. All the '13s I have seen have a bulb horn (which looks better than the A-U-GA mechanical horn). I don't know what year they started using the later horns.

Re: Identifying correct coil box for early 1913
My U.S.'13 has a block date of April 3, 1913. It had a metal coil box, but it I was told that there was an 'upgrade' program that allowed owners to swap out their old box and coils for a new and improved metal box and coils. I talked to RV Anderson, and he felt that an April 1913 T would have been b...

His name is Clarence. Why? Because an"uncle" (who was called 'Cap') was a big Model T enthusiast. When I was 12, I was often the designated driver, due to his incapacitation. He claimed the 1913 T was the best year, since it was the last year before the assembly line. My '13 is also my best friend. ...
