Re: cotter pin installation?

Thanks for the input, guys----I think I`ll go with the lockwashers and no cotter pins.. Good observation, Mark--Longstanding problem with the hand crank alignment---the 1/4 inch shim brings it into alignment. The rad " shell" seems to have enough "wiggle room" to keep the crank aligned. cotter pin installation?

I shimmed-up the hand- crank bracket located on top of the Ft. spring/frame on my `29 model A. The two 1/2 " X 20 hold down U-bolts are now too short for the cotter pin holes to secure the nuts, when tight. Guess i could grind down each of the 4 nuts but I`m concerned about losing the integrity for ...

You can also tow a "T" by just removing the rear axle keys, then tighten the rear axle nuts---probably not good for long distances but works fine to load a trailor or move it somewhere ----I did that after I joined the two piece crank club, no problems....

You should ask your local Model T guys if THEY are having similar problems, as you have described. Re: Help getting a 1912 to run on battery

The ignition switch selection (Mag or Batt_) decides from where to send the voltage, to the coil box. Disconnect that battery from the coil box and reconnect it to the Ignition switch. ONE wire--Ignition switch to coil box--is all that's required. The way you are currently wired you are sending Mag ...

Don`t have a wiring diagram handy but---That "hot" wire has to go to the Ignition. switch which is then connected to the coil box---from your description, appears the Ignition switch is not in the circuit....(on the battery side)

regarding that E-brake lever position, Scott Conger is right on---engage high gear by keeping it full forward---That totally disengages the trans, clutches and triple gears and provides a "flywheel" effect with the jacked wheel. If you jackup one wheel, place the E-Brake in full forward , high gear position. This give a direct drive in the trans which eliminates the clutch/transmission drag. Nobody mentioned this, above. Be sure to block the other wheels as you will be in high gear when she starts.....paul
