I'm ready to install an original set of AC brakes. The instructions tell me to to remove the lower bolts holding the radius rods to the backing plates and substitue the longer ones that are included. Greg, the late calendar year 11 builds used a shorter steering column than the mid year 12s. Mine is a Dec 11 build and has the 11 length column, 23 1/2". It's original to the car. The mid year 12 used a 25 1/2" column.

Rough surfaces will tear up lining before the metal surface smooths out. Think about transmission drums.
I've chewed up transmission linings by not filing and sanding smooth after turning on a lathe. I would get the brake drum surfaces as smooth as I could.

Re: AC brakes
My concern is whether rods from the hand brake levers will work. Do they pass under the running board brackets, radius rods etc without interference?. Can I use the Fords clevises to connect the rods to the brakes or is a short license of cable a better option? Etc. Don Tyler has a set up where the ...

AC brakes
I like to hear about the feasibility of using brake rods to the AC brakes in lieu of the cable set up. Im thinking about removing the parking brakes and having the rods from the handbrake go to the AC brakes. Any suggestions, recommendations, cautions, etc. appreciated.

Re: 1911-12 Fender Irons with hole (eyelet)
A car with date stamp on the rear spring of Dec '11 had them. I thought I read they were in production only three months. Possibly notes from Mc Calleys book.

Keith I'm hoping you can get another crankshaft ground to the sames specs as the broken one and not have to disturb your rods and mains much. Mabe just light fitting with Timesaver. Erik Barrett has a whole bunch of good crankshafts. I've has good luck using Carl Grindstaff in Redding to grind T cra...

Re: What have you done to your Model T in September?
I know I've probably posted too much about my 1912 roadster but I am celebrating g a 20 year effort (on and off) to complete this restoration. Today I finished. Still have to bring the car to Ernie Romero next Spring for a top and waiting to meet with Russ Furstnow at Tulare for help with the speedo...

Re: What have you done to your Model T in September?
Thanks for the input. I considered silver solder but opted for a mechanical repair. I the other end comes apart, I'll go with silver solder because ther is no way to install a screw.
Your observation prompted me to use Loctitie.I think there is enuf thread engagement to hold things togther.

Re: Brass windshield bumpers
I've puchased some rubber bumpers ans wish to attach them with screws. Im thinking of screwing them into the bottom horizontal frame just inside the clamps on the outer edged of the firewall. Here's the rub. I have a Speedway Motors windshield frame and don't know if the slugs on the bottom curved c...

Repaired a broken horn bulb bracket. Langs says the soldered joint often breaks. Mine did. I saw no sense In resoldering so I did a mechanical repair with a 10 32 machine screw and a small copper washer using blue Loctote to hold things tight.

Re: 1912 commercial roadster
I don't have any pictures but considered replacing the rear seat with some railing. Mr. Mari, the fellow who recently made the cast iron stoves for 1912 carburetors, was making very nice looking railing from brass tubing. If you search the net I think you can finds photos of what I'm talking about. ...

Dan what do you charge for doing both forks top and bottom and refacing the thrust surfaces?
I just did one side on an axle in the car and it took me 3 plus hours.

All vendors are out of stock and it's unlikely more will be reproduced. If someone has dimensions, location of screw holes, etc I could make something to protect the sills.

Interested in your reasoning why you wouldn't use an axle with a second keyway and why no part of an axle should be welded.
