Top for a 12 roadster
Ive been given the name of Scott Henningsen in Salinas to make and install a top for my 12 roadster. Does anyone have any experience with him?
He'll need to shave the bows to fit the sockets and install a rear roll up panel with Murphy style fasteners. Looking for a near show quality top.

Rough surfaces will tear up lining before the metal surface smooths out. Think about transmission drums.
I've chewed up transmission linings by not filing and sanding smooth after turning on a lathe. I would get the brake drum surfaces as smooth as I could.

As you know Ford specs allow up to 8 thou clearance. That seems excessive but I've not had problems at 5 thou clearance. When I reamed valve guides on my 10, I cut them for 1. 5 thou clearance and had sticky valves. I'm sure I was passing oil thru newly installed rings which had not seated, but when...

If the paint was applied thick enuf you can color sand with 1500 to 2000 grit or higher then buff it just as you would a single stage automotive paint. I don't have any pictures but considered replacing the rear seat with some railing. Mr. Mari, the fellow who recently made the cast iron stoves for 1912 carburetors, was making very nice looking railing from brass tubing. If you search the net I think you can finds photos of what I'm talking about. ...

Decided to go with the eBay mirrors after David's favorable review and seeing a photo of them installed on a car with windshield rods. Thanks for your help David.

Thanks for the info David. I'm seriously considering buying two for my car. I want to make sure I can set the mirrors high enuf on the lower windshield frame to screw into the slugs and still clear the windshield rods. Matt thanks for the tip. I gave Norm a buzz and he's checking his inventory to se...

Re: Looking for Stevens Front Axle tool owners
Dan what do you charge for doing both forks top and bottom and refacing the thrust surfaces?
I just did one side on an axle in the car and it took me 3 plus hours.

Thanks for all the helpful information. Steve Tomaso was kind enough to offer me a set of NORS sill plates which I am purchasing. They are the skinny type with a checkerboard background and Ford logo

All vendors are out of stock and it's unlikely more will be reproduced. If someone has dimensions, location of screw holes, etc I could make something to protect the sills.

Brass door strips
Been thru Langs cataloge and can't find the brass door strips that are used on 1912 cars to cover the front compartment threshold. Did I miss something? Are these available?

Looking for a decent mirror to mount on my 1912 roadster windshield. Not interested in the cheap round ones available today from the parts houses. If anyone has Vintique rectangular mirror they would be willing to part with I'd certainly be interested

Interested in your reasoning why you wouldn't use an axle with a second keyway and why no part of an axle should be welded.

Re: weld repair on axle by the keyway
Curious why you say that Jerry. While a new keyway weakens the axle some, I wouldn't think it serious enough to cause failure on today's roads. Welding runs a risk of making the stub brittle. Not knowing what the axles are made of, that's just a concern not a fact. But still a risk a breakage. Your ...

Re: weld repair on axle by the keyway
First of all John, the poster asked about whether a specific repair would work. I'm sure he knows he can replace the axle with a modern one. With regard to cutting a new keyway, I've often thought of doing that myself on a number of axles I've collected over the years. However I don't have the tooli...

Re: N's, R's & S's
There were a few touring bodies made for a Model S roadster. Cecil Church had one and there is a period photo of one displayed on a floor room in London. I assume they were Ford bodies. If memory serves there is one illustrated on the cover of an old issue the MTFIC mag. That may have been Church's....

Allen, for hard to find hardware, try Blacksmith Bolt & Rivet Supply. I purchased some blackened step bolts there I couldn't find elsewhere. Also some heavy square nuts and round head slotted wood screws, all blackened.

As a suggestion, try selling them individually or in sets. I would like to purchase at least one set and extra bushings but would never have a use for all of them.
