This is a sad story. A guy down the street was a cop and retired around 45. He spent is time watching TV and eating. That was 15 years ago. In those 15 years he gained a lot of weight and had lapband surgery. Lapband surgery restricts the size of the stomach, but it also requires the patient to go o...

The end of the war to end all wars.

Thanks for all of your replies. Interesting stuff.
A rebuilt Stromberg OF runs $600 and up. A new 8N carburetor is $30 and runs strong on an 8N. So my last question is,
would an 8N carburetor run as well or better than a Stromberg OF on a Model T?

From left,
Lubriplate - correct for Ruckstells
M-533 - correct 600W for T rears
Cheap 80-90W gear oil - maybe as good as original?
Some say the modern oil can deteriorate the brass in the TT rear .

That is old and amazingly simple technology. Impressive that they figured out how to make it work so long ago. Re: Electrics and autonomouses
It will be interesting to see if fossil fueled and electric can simultaneously co-exist concurrently at the same time while coinciding as they occur. Difficult to see how they could share the road...

There are a lot of meat hunters in Virginia. I find it lean, but when ground with wild boar or some pork it makes great burgers. There is also a big hunt for food banks. The deer have to be field dressed and taken to a game station, from there it goes to butchers and food banks. And you are absolute...

Snow is beautiful as long as it melts away the next day. I don't know how you guys do the really cold drives. 54* here, I just got back from the gym, not a problem. But when it gets below 50* an open car gets a little chilly for me, and I just can't do below 40* on a regular basis. Fortunately, even...

Tom, I don't think there are any experts here hoping to short GM, but there is at least one member here who wonders how the love of old fossil-fueled cars and the seemingly rapturous anticipation of their extinction can simultaneously coexist in one person. Wow! Who posts here who has a rapturous a...

I am not trained to give financial advice, but it is pretty obvious that the experts on MTFCA Forum know that electric and autonomous vehicles will fail. There is easy money to be made here. Ad far as I'm concerned, around here in NW. MO. there should be a bounty on Deer. In their infinite wisdom, the State has set limits on them for the hunters for many years because they are "Protected". In fact, they have become a huge hazard for travelers on our local highways. JMHO. Dave No bounty...

Halloween is close! Last year I got rained out, but the two years before that my wife and a friend of hers rode in the back of the Limo though three neighborhoods that I often drive. Those neighborhoods are parallel to the main road and have 25 mph speed limits, a lot of the people trick-or-treating...

Thank you for your comments, I don't think the seller took any shortcuts. He did not build this car for me, he built it for HIS touring car, so he wanted it right. And he knows antique cars, not just T's. So this will be a learning experience for me, for example, I didn't know T's used generators wi...

Cleaning up is necessary, but I am not good at it. In 1968 when I was 22 (and yet immortal) I drove a 1915 Roadster, no side curtains, from Cleveland, Ohio, to Williamsburg, Virginia, in early January. No idea how cold it was, but one overnight in Pennsylvania it was jack up the rear wheel to crank it in the snow the next morning. I can attest that...

Even if the axle was marked as to ratio when made, the gears could have been changed. If you can turn the driveshaft you can determine the ratio by counting the number of turns of the wheel. But the value is determined by the condition of the gears, and you have to remove the gears to determine thei...

Tom pulling the car 150 ft with engine in gear likely did no damage or create any wear that could be detected. Starting a car after many years sitting, without pre-oiling the bearings is far more brutal on the babbit, and it is done regularly by people who don't give a second thought to it. From yo...

By Royce Peterson on Sunday, May 27, 2007 - 10:22 pm: The only way a Model T can safely be towed on 4 wheels is at low speed - say less than 20 MPH - with the spark plugs removed, the throttle lever down and in high gear. Even that is dangerous and not worth it except maybe for a block or two. http:...

I installed a new windshield in my TT Limo. The old windshield was plate glass and had a 2" oak frame around it. The top of that frame was in my line of sight.
