Frame, axles, and engine -- assorted, Little Rock, AR $350
As seen in the attached photos. The frame is nice. It was blasted and painted 20 years ago and kept inside. There is a '26 - '27 front axle assembly and a common one. Common differential with axles but no driveshaft. '26 - '27 engine block that has had a crack repair, '26 - '27 transmission that loo...

If you're interested in making a truly correct set of support rods you should contact the Benson Ford Research Center and order drawing number T-2640, or as they term it, "T-2640_12-07-1910_v2" which is the original drawing date. Lots of things point to 1910 -- the curved profile on the lower portion of the door, the style of radiator cap, the Jno Brown 60 sidelamp, and the buggy rail on the rear seat.

Re: WTB 1927 Model T Coupe Passenger Side Door
I have a '29 Closed Cab Pickup and had always heard the doors were the same as '26 - '27 coupe and believe they will interchange, but someone brought to my attention recently that the number of screws holding in the hinges is different between the two. Apparently one uses three screws and the other ...

Re: WTB: Running board tool box w/dimensions.
Walter, if you can't find what you want given the dimensions you quote, there is another way. The optima battery does not need to be standing upright. It can be laid on its side, so that may give you other options. Allan from down under. Thanks for the suggestion. Optima's are great for that and it...

WTB: Running board tool box w/dimensions.
Need a smaller box than the one shown to fit my application. No longer than 13" outside length. Minimum inside length 10-1/4" to accommodate shown Optima battery. No wider than 8-1/2" but could be less by quite a bit. Vertical depth of box itself no less than 8" given that it has a 1" lid. Inside di...

The actual engine temperature is a better gauge than the boiling point of Evans, which is about 40 degrees F above water. That is incorrect. The boiling point of water is 212F and regular green antifreeze mixed 50/50 is 265F. Taken straight from a bottle of Evans: "Evans High Performance Coolant (H...

I see no sign of the hub being cracked. My suspicion is that when the bearing tightened up that the inner cup started spinning in the hub. The bearing then continued to tighten pressing the bearing tighter into the cup and expanding it as it wore the hub. That would explain why it took a lot of eff...

Walter: No, I didn't misplace the decimal. I know it seems as if that would be the case. It did take quite a bit to get the old cup out, but the new cup drops in and you can visibly move it from side to side. I measured the bore with the T shaped bore gauge and caliper, and the cup OD with the cali...

If you spun the race and the hub is now 0.054 oversize I'm wondering why you had to drive out the old one. If you had said that it was 0.005 loose I would have said just reinstall with Loctite Sleeve Retainer. Any chance you got the decimal point in the wrong place?

I have experience using this in three non-Model T early cars -- a larger 1913 four cylinder as well as a 1904 two cylinder and a 1907 two cylinder. The 1913 lost its water pump and needs a new one fabricated from scratch, yet the car is usable otherwise. It tended to run hoter with Evans but didn't ...

You probably already know this but Mac Van Pelt is the best resource on these transmissions in terms of parts, online reference, and even help on the phone. Crack it open and look. If it hasn't had oil put in it yet it won't be too messy of a job and if it's correctly done it will go back together easily and, if not correctly done.... it was going to come back apart, anyway!

Re: Emergency brakes converted to service brakes
This is not a brake design that lends itself well to use as a service brake. Because the shoe is not anchored separately it puts a tremendous load on one side of that little brake cam (which is doing double duty as an anchor) when using it to stop a car that is rolling. That's to say nothing of the ...

My Monarch. Light as a butterfly. It is a baby as Series 60's go. 16" swing (catalog), 18.5" actual, 36" between centers, built in 1948. Despite its size it can still do very fine work on small pieces. Its only limitation for little things is that the spindle doesn't go over 700 rpm.

Powder pros: Durable, covers all surfaces thoroughly without runs, not so prone to chipping, easy since it pretty much guarantees that you have to hire somebody else to do it. Much less labor if you're content with a blast-and-powder end result. Cheaper than equivalent quality paint job. Powder cons...

Don't overthink it. A film of anything will do it until you get it assembled and filled. Thanks to Scott for the kind words. Some know that I Iost more hair sorting through this recently. I have taken to milling the axle to my liking. If the keyway in the hub is a bit loose you can even get standard "oversized" key stock from McMaster and sweeten up the fit a little more yet. Being a light tap fit is ideal but not to the point it is necessary to pound them. That is asking for trouble...

The 39 tooth ring gear is noticeabley thinner, and causes the gear teeth to intersect with the bolt holes. And it is not uncommon to grind down a few bolts to clear the pinion either. I do not believe that this is the failure mechanism tho. Once the bolts fail...the ring gear is at the mercy of fat...

Look at how the tooth root is gashed into some of the bolt holes. Is it deep or does it just look worse in photos than it really is? On a standard 40-tooth gear they don't do that. Is the fillet at the root sharp? Do you think the problem originated at the hole near 12-o'clock that appears to be tor...

Re: what is the length of a 1912 Torpedo roadster steering column vs a 1911 steering column?
This is perplexing because the 12 touring column tube is 23 1/2 and if it was 25 1/2 like the 12 torpedo, the steering wheel would be pressing against my lap. As it is now the steering wheel is so close I have to spread my legs to advance the timing. As the column gets longer, would that not raise ...

Using the same standard to measure that you are there, my '11 Torpedo column tube is 29-1/2" and my 1912 column is 25-1/2". It seems that you have the correct column in your '12 Torpedo and an incorrect column in your '12 Touring.

There was more than one manufacturer of tops and the variation might be attributed to that. The back windows look like they have the corners clipped which I think is an '09 feature.
