My favorite story is the show where my '23 touring was placed between a killer Ferrari and a drop dead gorgeous red '63 split window Vette. Can you guess which car drew the biggest crowd? Re: T’s at our local cruise night.

Yep, that's common. With my '23 Touring at a car show a 3 years ago I was positioned between a drop dead '63 split window Vette and a Ferrari Super America. My car drew a crowd for the duration of the show and hardly anybody paid any attention to my high dollar neighbors. The Ferrari owner got pisse...

Re: Mysterious knocking

I had a similar rattle and found it was "octane" knock caused by my Reeder aluminum high compression head. I went to 91 octane gas and used a little less advance. Rattle gone!

Re: What have you done to your T in August

I solved the mystery of my infuriating rattle. After hours and hours of searching for the loose, broken or otherwise faulty part which caused me to loose what sanity I had left, I can now enjoy my "quiet" '23 Touring. All it took was some 91 octane and a little less timing advance. My Reeder aluminu...

Re: ILLUSIVE RATTLE CONTINUES

Jem- I've about concluded you may have hit upon the cause. Actually, there is nothing left!! So what catastrophic event is looming? In other words, what is the danger in driving it until winter when I can pull the plate and the head? Many thanks for your response.

ILLUSIVE RATTLE CONTINUES

Hello again, This is another try at hoping to get some other ideas of the origin of a %$#@ rattle in my 1923 Touring. The rattle occurs when at idle or coasting. The engine was rebuilt some years ago with aluminum pistons, compression is good. Here is what I've checked: shorting out #3 the rattle st...

Re: RATTLE DRIVING ME CRAZY

Scott, Thank you so much for your help. Using your suggestion it appears to be the center main. Actually when I short out either 2 or 3 the noise quits. So what does one do with a noisy center main bearing?

RATTLE DRIVING ME CRAZY

I'm ready to scream!! The engine runs like a top except for this rattle that I get while idling or coasting. I have adjusted my rod caps and removed a dozen or so spacers. I used the 1" square news paper technique to get the proper clearance. The rattle continued. I pulled the timing cover and found...

Re: 1919 Ames touring car

I took the above picture and posted it earlier at the time of Gary Hylton's untimely death. He was very proud of this car and among his several Ts I believe this was his favorite driver. Modified for reliability, he annually drove this car to his summer home in Minnesota from Prairie Village, Kansas...

ZINK MOTOR CO. APPLETON CITY, MO

ZINK MOTOR CO began business in 1916 selling Ford Modet Ts and remains a Ford dealer today. ZINK's building itself was designed by Ford Motor Co and remains as it was back in the day. This past June 13th[image][/image] the owners held a special early Ford "meet" which drew cars from early T's to a p...

Re: ALUMINUM TIMING GEAR SOURCE

Thanks Gene, I am looking to replace my Dan McEachern brass gear because it is oversized. I believe I'm running and original steel crank gear that is worn out or maybe the last babbit job was out of whack. Anyways I need a larger gear to get rid of the slop--the rattle is driving me crazy!!!

ALUMINUM TIMING GEAR SOURCE

Hi Folks. I'm on a search for an aluminum .005 oversize timing gear. I understand the gear manufacturer for the usual parts dealers is serionuisly behind in production. Langs estimates a lengthy wait for order fulfillment. Got any suggestions??
