I agree with Adam. This response assumes appropriate capacitor testing technique was used. The problem described sounds alot like metalized Mylar capacitors were used in the coil rebuild. Ford Selection of the Third Brush Regulation Generator
Ford and other automobile manufacturers used the "Third Brush Regulation" type generator in their charging and lighting systems because it was the cheapest type available.

More on the Model T Ford Generator
Why the Model T Ford generator destroys itself when the battery is disconnected. I described the Model T generator “building up” process in the article entitled “Model T Ford Battery Charging System” in the technical section of the” Model T Ford Fix” website. When the (Reverse Current Relay type) c...

Re: Polarize a generator
Brent is correct. If you work on Model T Ford third brush regulation type generators you should get boned up on the "Building Up' process. How it works and how faluts can prevent it from happening. Failure to Build Up is a very common problem. Here is an ariclle wrote to explain in detail how buildi...

The explanation remains today as one of the seminal learning documents. The diagram Figure 7 is intended to depict the inter- relationship b...

Re: Perch without mark
I completely agree with Steve Tomaso. I would immediately remove those (non Ford) perches and find some good originals and instal them. Ford perches were forgings. If you look around you could probably easily find two NOS Ford parts and use them. I cannot remember his name, the fellow who owned Town...

This is truely sad to hear. Steve Coniff was a giant in the Model T hobby. I was honored to have been one of his freinds. If you were ever lucky enough to be invted on one of Steve's Colorado rocky mountian Model T trips the experiences were etched into your memoriy and would never be forgottern. So...

Re: Commutator timing help required
John Regan had a fovorite saying about fixing Model T's: "The car is 100 years old and 100 people have been working on it. what are the chances they all knew what they were doing?"
A Model T can be made to run with many thing wrong, but that doest make it working as intended.

The objective of our article above was to simply explain how the Ford magneto ignition sustem works. The article was not intended to identify all the problems with every Model T's in existence today. Steve When I got my 1915 Runabout it had a poorly made aluminium reproduction Canadian style license plate mounted on the passenger side headlamp stancion. This positioned my 1915 Michigan plate too close to the choke pull rod loop and in the way of a clear swing of the hand held crank handle. I tri...

I have restored over 50 HCCT's so I qualify to opine. This procedure will address your painted surface questions. This process is for a Ford /Ford clone HCCT. Re: Oil leak/puddle underneath the starter...
Early Model T starters were equipped with a felt seal for the Mounting Bracket/armature shaft seal. See attachd photo on Right. Not sure how long this was done, but you don't see them very often. Those units did not have a drip hole drilled in the bottom of the starter case.. I rebuilt over 500 Mode...

For SAle Restored Circa1915 Metal Top Coils
A nice set of metal top Circa 1915 Model T Ford ignition coils shown in the attached photo are offered here for sale. I removed these coils from a restored 1915 Model T Runabout I recently purchased. They worked great but needed new points/adjustment and cleaning up a bit. Being a coil perfectionist...
