Re: Cheap Parts & Tools

I remember a time late 70s early 80s I think, when most items in the store had a choice between the pricey item and the cheap Chinese item, apparently most chose the cheaper one and now thats all we get. I realize that there were other factors involved but I do believe that was part of it.

Re: Babbitt

Not a bad idea, I know the manager of our local scrap yard pretty well might take a bar there and see what they say. Thanks again for the input. George

Re: Babbitt

Thanks for the replies. Looks like like it might be good stuff, I'm sure my friend will be surprised. I was thinking about trying some in a hitmiss engine don't think I would trust my Babbitting skills on a T block, maybe someday.

Re: The frustration of incompetence

Scott might have something there with the choked muffler. I don't remember if you tried it with the muffler off. Worth a try I've had plugged exhaust cause all kinds of weird problems. Good luck and keep us posted. George

Re: 20 coupe gas tank

Mark the trunk (turtle deck) was mostly nonexistant, I think the floor was there but I can't find it now, probably didn't consider it any value  so my plan has been to build a wooden pickup bed I have period hardware for that. So I kind of have to keep the under seat tank. Hopefully the seat fr...

Re: 20 coupe gas tank

Thanks for the replies. Wayne I have the single cushion seat, I think it has the 3/4 wood frame you mention, but I don't think that is enough. I need to get some help to get the cushions down from storage and try them. Still hoping that someone out there has one of these coupes with the oval tank. I...

20 coupe gas tank

Hi all, l am at the point of bolting the body down on the 20 coupe I've been working on since 2011. It seems to me that the tank is to high for the seat, so I looked back at the pictures I took while taking it apart and it looks like that is the way it was. So wondering if there is someone out there...

Re: Source for Hard-to-Find Fasteners

When John first posted this it reminded me that I needed some straight slot screws, so I ordered a bag of 100. I think the quality looks good but I don't know how the threads are made. They look like they are cut to me, tried to get a picture maybe you can tell from the picture. George

Re: What is the vacuum test telling me?

I would suggest that you do a cylinder leak down test as John Warren suggested. We do them as a first step in engine diagnosis all the time at work really lets you know the condition of your engine before you start playing the guessing game. John explained the steps quite well. The one thing it migh...

I'm not as far along on my 20 coupe as you are, so my pulls aren't mounted to the doors. I will attempt to post a picture of them.

Re: U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.

Sounds like he is referring to the 4 large pins that make up the knuckle part of the u joint. The second question he is measuring the up and down movement of the drive shaft in the bushing through the retaining pin hole (shaft to bushing clearance ) seams clear enough to me. But I don't have enough ...
