When I went through this process, I had read on here that the new shelf blocks are too thick and must be sanded down. I had to get new shelves and blocks as a prior owner used the old shorter stud kit and cut the end of the blocks and shelves off! Needless to say, the lower skirt where the crank goe...

Re: Question on Hasslers

My own educated guess is the worn and shifted spring makes the Hassler springs look shifted and bottomed out. Since the leaf spring takes the load and the Hasslers just some of the shock, I'm guessing the springs are probably not worn but who knows? Anyone ever wear out a Hassler spring?

Hello all, I eventually want to swap in the rebuilt front spring I have. My 26 Touring has Hasslers on it. My question is the Hassler springs look to be worn out. Re: Sure Stop Disk Brake Reservoir Mounting Ideas

Thanks Scott. Since I probably will go that route, that makes me feel better. :) Pat, I wish I had that kind of fab skills but I sure don't. I'm a good shade tree mechanic, though. ;) I like that, Toon but will it fit with the Sure Stop kit? There's not much room under the floorboards either. Sure S...

Re: Sure Stop Disk Brake Reservoir Mounting Ideas

I was able to reach across the engine with drivers side hood closed and hold it there. Plenty of room. Just wish it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Rather not drill holes either. Sighhh! Not today...need to think on it a bit but looks like I'll have to get used to the idea. Thought for sure I ha...

well, won't fit under the seat. It looks like it might rub the hood on the firewall. Not too keen on the long bracket idea either. Thoughts?

Re: Sure Stop Disk Brake Reservoir Mounting Ideas

With the 26 Touring having a cowl tank, there's lots of room under the seat. I ordered some stainless steel L brackets and will see if I can mount to the wooden board below the seat at the bottom of the compartment.

All great input. I'm leaning towards under the seat. Really hate to drill any holes, though. Maybe make a bracket that screws into the wood under the seat?

Sure Stop Disk Brake Reservoir Mounting Ideas

Hello all,
Getting close to mounting the the remote reservoir on the Sure Stop disk brakes. Instructions mentioned firewall and under the seat. Please post some pics of the various mounting ideas you have chosen. Mine is a 26 Touring. Also, large or small reservoir preferred?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: WTB 1926 Wire Wheel Lug Nuts, just 2 or 3 old ones

Not a bad idea.....the nut that I damaged was kinda an oddball anyway so I think it's a bit newer. Was hoping for an old original with a spare or two.

WTB 1926 Wire Wheel Lug Nuts, just 2 or 3 old ones

I damaged the threads of one of my lug nuts on my wire wheeled 1926 Touring so would like to buy 2 or 3 lug nuts in rough finish but with good threads so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb on my patina'd car.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

Yikes, I hope not! What am I looking for? I just ordered a bearing splitter puller kit I've wanted for a while as these cups are not coming off willingly. A little overkill but I can use the kit on other projects. I read an old post where Chaffin recommended the less expensive felt seals. Think I'll...

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

I apologize, I should have labeled the axles.

First pic with shiny seal cap is the wood wheel side....messy leak, no shim. Second with darker cap is the wire wheel hub...no leak, hub was shimmed.

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

Took off the wood wheel hub. Nut was finger tight and hub, key, drum all slipped off with little effort. No hub puller needed. Both axles look OK to me. I will need new seals. Wood wheel side was a greasy mess. What do you recommend for seals? Wire wheel hub is fairly scored. Don't think I should re...

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

I recall the drum was flush with the backing plate on the wire wheel one and the converted wood wheel one has more overhang. Since I'm doing the disk brake conversion, I must be certain of the hubs I press on the new drums/discs, hence my push to just purchase two new hubs....but it's an expensive p...

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

So the second picture of the rough but correct hub is what you've seen before and is normal? Not welded? If I get a new key and try fitting it without a key first to ensure it's not wallowed out, you'd use it?

Need to replace the wood wheel conversion hub.

Everyone agree?

Hey John,
I looked at pics of other 26 27 wire wheel hubs and they are smooth as I would expect..... just like the adapted wire wheel hub. You sure this hub isn't welded up?

Re: Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

Brake lining looks good, I think. I'm concerned with the welding on the hub....is that normal? I believe that since someone used a non tapered key, it rode up in the slot and caused the hub to wobble so in went the shims. Thoughts? Here's the other side. Hope it's not too tight...how am I going to g...

Help on 26 Rear Wire Wheel Hub and Axle

Hello all, I am in the middle of installing the Sure Stop brakes on my 26 Touring with wire wheels. When I pulled the left hub I found what seems to be shim material jammed between hub and axle taper. Hub appears to be welded on. Also looks like the incorrect non-tapered key. The brakes appear to be...

Here is a nifty switch I intend to wire up to choose which horn the button will activate. Turn the switch sideways and you'd get a nice discrete turn signal switch!

Re: Mounting Horn on Radiator to Firewall Rod

I was able to flip the bracket but I couldn't eliminate the L brackets due to the offset of the original bracket. That offset pushed the horn into the coil box so I had to raise the horn up to provide clearance. Also had to give it a bit of a rotation from the vertical. What do you think? Better? Th...

Re: Mounting Horn on Radiator to Firewall Rod

Hmmmm...lots of good thoughts. I put the bracket the way it is to try and balance the horn but it could be reversed if you guys think it would make that much of a difference. I did the L brackets so there would be less torque on the clamps and avoid the chance of the clamps slipping. Those L bracket...

Be kinda hard to detail it out. I can take pics when done, hopefully this weekend. Using stainless wire rope clamps and two stainless L brackets to ad...

Double check the thickness of those wood parts. If I remember correctly, mine were a bit too thick and gave me alignment problems so I had to sand them down some.
