Re: U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.
Update; dropped in a 22 mm long socket down the tube and a 3/4 x 4’ wood dowel (all I had handy) made sure to clear the rivets, three hits with a three lb. and popped right out. Ordered up new parts, cleaned up waiting patiently for ups

Re: U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.
Some folks thread a pipe tap into the old babbitt bushing, then install a pipe plug. A long steel rod is then used to drive out the bushing. Just be SURE, that the long rod is of adequately small diameter to pass by the internal heads of the rivets that attach the ball end to the torque tube. Some ...

Re: U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.
To answer your question, yes, .017 clearance in your drive shaft bushing is way too much. You need a new bushing. Also, inspect your drive shaft in the area the runs in that bushing. If it too is worn, more than a thousandth or two, a new bushing will not be the total answer, since a new bushing ma...

Re: U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.
I knew I was going to have a problem explaining this right. I still can’t get pictures to load up. I looked through my T service manual again and I do not see a break down of a u joint. You know what, forget the u-joint. On to the torque tube drive shaft bushing. .017 radial play. Too much? ( Torque...

U-joint Drive shaft bushing question.
Hi guys. 26 Roadster with rebuilt engine and trans. I have been chasing a vibration above 37 mph for a couple of years now. Yeah I know. It takes some of us longer than others haha. I pulled the rear end out today to look at the u joint and bushing. One question is the u joint slides on the pins. It...

In picture 1 I see an engine on the hoist without the pan. Did they pull the engine out of the car that way? I was wondering if there was enough room to do that. Have any of you good folks tried that?

Re: $ Difference Between Replacing Broken Crankshaft w/ stock crank or a Model A or B or Scat crank?
I used a scat stroked crank on last rebuild and I would definitely not do that again. It requires too much grinding on engine block and no real performance increase even with performance cam. I recommend a scat stock stroke crank.

I agree if you have a 6 vdc system stick with it. My 26 Roadster came with a 12 vdc system and 6 volt starter. I’ve been running it for many years with no problem. Same bendix.

Here in California the gas will plug up carburetor jets in small engines and motorcycles in a month or so. I tell my customers to use sta bill or drain the system if they are not going to use their bike for a while, draining is better. I had a bad and very expensive experience with seafoam so I won’...

Re: Starting fluid. Yes or no
Using starting fluid is just masking a problem. You are right. A finely tuned, or even a poorly tuned, T engine should start pretty easy. Maybe the compression is low possibly due to a tight valve, cam timing off or a plain worn out engine.

Here's a dumb suggestion..why not thoroughly clean the entire engine\trans. area, make sure your engine is topped off with oil, start it up sitting on a clean surface, grab a beer and lay down next to the car and just wait for things to happen. I bet something will show up in less than 20 minutes. ...

Re: Scat stroker and Stipe cam - is there an issue?
I did the stroked scat crank and 280 stripe cam 4 years ago. I had to relieve the engine block and form the oil return line so they crank didn’t hit but no problem with the cam. BTW I wouldn’t do the stroker crank again. I don’t like grinding away at the engine and that ugly pan spacer. I don’t feel...

Re: A crank T bock with counter weights
I had a Scat stroked crank installed and I would never do that again. A stock scat crank would be the best but a stroked crank, similar to an A crank, required relieving the engine block and getting the oil return line out of the way not to mention that oil pan spacer. I don’t notice any performance...

It was very windy here yesterday (not like you’re getting) and I took my lifted jeep to the heart doctor 20 miles away and man I was busy keeping it on the road. I should have taken my truck. I gave up keeping it in my lane and was happy just keeping it on the road.
