Wood Roof Kit - 1927 Tudor

I have purchased a wood roof kit for our 1927 Tudor but have come up with some questions before being able to move ahead with the assembly and installation. Do I treat the raw wood to preserve it? Is there any preparation needed on the steel body parts where the wood is to sit? What fasteners do I u...

1927 Tudor Front Seat Legs

Just picked up the front legs for the front seats in the Tudor and noticed something interesting/confusing. The legs are actually 2 different lengths. Chris - your description is a perfect match for what I have seen during my searching. The horizontal stitching on the door cards doesn't demark a change in material used but rather serves to hold the single panel of seat material from sagging. Hi Matt in California, Love the concept and wish you luck on pulling this off. The only problem I can see at the moment is the line of rotation. Your mounting points will put the center of gravity too low making the assembly top heavy. If you check the engine stand picture posted by ABoer above, you...

Re: NEW MODEL T PARTS 20-40% OFF

I think you are correct, Tony. That said, I've recently purchased a magneto coil completely by email so naturally expected the system to perform just as it had earlier. Good lesson to keep my eye on the ball next time. As the sale has ended, I've now moved on to other vendors for my needed parts. Ke...

Re: NEW MODEL T PARTS 20-40% OFF

Emailed a large order in March and have had no word back yet. Checked the website and discovered the following note: "We are sorry but at this time, we are not accepting E-mail orders or any other form of web-based orders. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you." Wish I had figured th...

I've seen this bolt sizing spreadsheet before and noted that there are a few missing items.

Any idea who owns or maintains this data as it would be good to see it expanded and, hopefully, completed.

I can't imagine the time it takes to create this, never mind the depth of talent holding the brush. There is so much charm and depth in this art.

My only flaw that I see is why are they so clean? In real life, children are usually much grubbier.

Lovely work, Rich, just lovely work.

Re: Front Spring Width

I appreciate that insight, Dan and the photo of what things should be like. As things stand, it appears that the top of the crossmember is 1 7/8". The frame thickness is about 1/8" (just by checking the photo showing a ruler so this may be off). Deducting the frame thickness from the outside width l...

Re: Front Spring Width

Took the trip to visit the buried frame and check out the front crossmember condition. I think it turned out to be well worth the effort. I was hoping against hope that the frame hadn't been beaten into submission to accept the wider Model A spring and it looks like it's still an original condition ...

henryford2 (love that name) - you're absolutely right, getting the correct spring is really the right thing to do here and that's the path that I need to follow. Re: Front Spring Width

Now that you mention it, Dallas, Perhaps the spring eye could be machined down the required 1/4" so that the shackles will align properly. Would have to be done with 1/8" on each side to keep things centered but this could be a winner. Still have to address the frame mounting issue and it will take ...

Re: Front Spring Width

Hi Allan FDU, Aha, a 1 3/4" bushing would bring the shackle into alignment and eliminate spacers, wouldn't it? I would have to replace the bushing in the A spring as it's 1/4" too short as well and sunken into the eye. (that sounds painful). I'm going to visit the frame and tunnel out in the snow to...

Re: Front Spring Width

The 1 3/4" Model A springs fitted to the 1 1/2" Model T perch would put the shackle plates on an angle if the 1/4" excess space wasn't filled in on the T side. Sounds like 1/8" washers would do it but proper fitting also requires Model A shackles to replace the shorter T shackles. There were definit...

Re: Front Spring Width

I now have a serious concern about what has been done to the frame to get this 1/4" wider spring in place. Re: What have you done to your Model T in January?

Dismantled the front spring, had it sandblasted and powder coated. Pressed in new bushings, painted the moving sections with graphite paint, and finally reassembled with a new bolt to replace the rusty, misshapen original. Came up with an issue trying to fit new spring clips and finding that they we...

Re: Front Spring Width

Dan,

Your link is making me think that this might be a Model A spring set.

Seems that the difference between the T & A (besides the width) is the location of the oiler. I will check that out to hopefully resolve the mystery.

Many thanks, Dan
