There is a small pin and a spring on the ring that came off the starter gear. Make sure you put them back, and the pin moves easily before you weld the ring on. You can purchase them from the vendors. The purpose is to keep the gear back away from the ring gear after it starts. Good luck, Bill Coyle

Re: Generator Frustrations...

Hi Chris, I had a similar experience the other day. I was adjusting the output on my spare generator on a test stand and rotated the entire brush plate slightly (4 screws). After doing so, I had no output. If I pressed the 3rd brush against the commutator while it was running, it would show an outpu...

Re: For Sale- Crankshaft Gear

I don't think this is a model T crank gear. I counted 25 teeth on it. My crank gear has 24 teeth.

Re: Did it again!

Hi Tim, thanks for posting the pics from our trip to Joe's in Tiffin. Thought I'd add the one of you standing next to your car instead of taking the pics! Was a great day.

So that rod needs to come out and be rebabbited or exchanged for one of the correct diameter. I would look at the babbitt on the upper half of the rod bearings as well. The ...

Re: Cool-A-Ford valve cover accessory information?

I was thinking that also, pulling the air through by means engine vacuum... carb intake. What does the back side look like? It could introduce a lot of dirt into the valve area, but keep it out of the cylinders... Like an oil bath air cleaner.

Re: Driving with a Ruckstell

I just installed and started using a Ruckstell this summer in my Roadster. On the flat lands here in northern Ohio I drive with Ford hi / low. Using Ruckstell sometimes in town and when backing into the garage. During my trip to West Virginia, it really showed how necessary it is going up and down m...

Thanks for the old Photos!
I remember reading only the 25 Chevrolet coupe and sedan used steel disk wheels with the 4-bolt pattern.

Re: What year is this whippet?

Hi Les, From the tag, I believe you have a model 96 4cyl whippet, the model 96A was the following 4cyl model. According to this chart, it was made in the later part of 1928 before the change over to the 96A. The attached link gives a little more information on the Model 96. It would be great to see ...

Re: Free Start

My thought is "what was happening at the time it broke" was only the final straw which broke the proverbial camel's back. When I Magnafluxed the crankshaft from my '26 roadster's worn out sawmill engine which had been sitting for many years, I found 4 cracks. The other interesting fact was the crank...
