Re: Fine Line Between Hoarding and Collecting
This is the future. There has been at least one other “model t collection” auction recently where entire shelves and bins of parts were sold for a few bucks. You can’t be for “keeping the hobby alive” and also care about getting the money out of a part you paid top dollar for 40 years ago. Times are...

You don’t need to be an expert with the MTFCA Ruckstell book. It describes exactly the test you need to perform to detect for a neutral issue. This includes lining all of the parts up in the Ruckstell housing and shifting so that you can see the engagement of the sliding gear on the carrier assembly...

One thing I almost never hear mentioned about setting TDC timing. WATCH YOUR HANDS! Some instructions tell you to turn the timer cover and listen for the coil buzz. Re: ‘26-‘27 Brake Shoe Alignment
Can you see a place on the lining which shows more wear! If not concentric, the spot which is dragging should show more wear than the rest. Another thing to check is the edge of the shoe against the drum. You can usually detect this by finding a wear groove on the inner edge of the drum. This can h...

Re: ‘26-‘27 Brake Shoe Alignment
As it is now, there is enough play that I can move the shoes in the up or down direction and the linings will over hang the backing plate by an 1/8” or more. It seems to me that if the shoes can move by that much in the retracted position, they would rub on the drum without any chance of being recen...

‘26-‘27 Brake Shoe Alignment
I have a ‘23 with a large drum (‘26-‘27) Ruckstell. I discovered that the drivers side rear hub gets hot after driving. When I removed the wheel to investigate I found that the brake shoe is not being held concentric by the four tabs in the backing plate. There is a lot of play which is allowing the...

Get an assortment of wire brushes, a good corded drill, and be done with it! A decent bench grinder with a wire wheel is also invaluable.
I did a frame off restoration on my car and never sandblasted one part.

As far as I know, those woodsworth grease springs are no longer being made. Is the prevailing opinion still that it’s a good idea to put them in even with the modern seals that are available?

A decent 1926 roadster pickup just sold for $21,175 on an online auction in Wi. Wood wheels, no options, older restoration. Whoda thunk it. We might have a goldmine. Your headline caught me... Model T prices and part prices are definitely on the rise. I disagree. https://mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic....

How long do they look like bright like that? I assume over time they lose their luster sort of like a boat trailer does.

What kind of pocket knife do you carry?
For some reason, I recently became interested in carrying a pocket knife. It’s not something I grew up with. But I can see how it would be one of those things you couldn’t live without once you got in the habit. This forum cuts across all kinds of people so I figure there’s a lot of you who carry a ...

Re: Ruckstell Bearing/Bronze Plate (P211/P139) Fit
I’ve got to agree with you there. It might have nothing to do with why I got the bearing I did but it’s helpful to know the how’s and why’s behind the bearing designation if you’re out there searching in the wild for one. The SKF website is a great resource.

Re: Rear Outer Hyatt Bearing Fit
Thanks guys. In your opinion, is there any harm in using a better bearing with a tighter fit if I can get them tapped into place? How tight is too tight? I figured they would wear in a little bit after use but I don’t want to cause any problems going down the road or not be able to get them out to s...

Re: Ruckstell Bearing/Bronze Plate (P211/P139) Fit
Ok, I've finally had a chance to get caught up and do some research. I'm by no means a bearing expert. Everything I've typed below can be found on the internet, but here it is all in one place: 1. 7212 is a industry designation for a single-row angular contact (thrust) ball bearing. It describes the...

Rear Outer Hyatt Bearing Fit
I am test fitting the rear axle outer bearings during a rebuild. I have new axles, new (“best quality”) bearing sleeves, and bearings that are essentially NOS. They do not just slide in like I am accustomed to and take small taps from a rubber mallet to fully seat them. When they are half way in, th...

One more thought...not having a title for the car is a deal killer for a lot of people who live in states with very strict vehicle registration laws. Ask anyone who has been through it.

Re: So why so little interest?
There have been quite a few nice original cars for sale on the classifieds over the last couple of years. All of the asking prices are lower than what brass cars were bringing 10+ years ago. Quite frankly, I’m glad to see it as it allows a whole different group of buyers access to these cars. I did ...
