Re: To Each Their Own...

Tadpole, Here is a picture of my ‘25 Coupe with the wrong year paint color, wire wheels with white wall tires, chrome plated radiator surround and chrome headlight rims. With Ruckstell and Rocky Mountain brakes by far the smoothest best running T I have ever owned. Incorrect yes but I am a happy cam...

Re: Kevlar band

During the rebuild if the worn knotches on the outside of the hogshead were not refurbished or replaced and the low pedal shaft not bent back to its original position no amount of adjustment to the low band will be adequate for great performance.

I wonder if the side view mirror on the fender in the first picture was actually useful or if vibration made it blurry?

Re: Emergency Brake and Low Gear

I just use the hand brake in the neutral position when I start out the first time from the barn or when I am backing up. Otherwise the brake lever is full forward and I go into neutral with the foot pedal.

Re: rough running after new carb

You have a whole lot of new parts going on so you will have to take each new part one at a time and test. What is the point gap set to? 20-22 Thousands? Is the timing correct? With engine running and not getting your hand mangled in the fan blades can you rotate the distributor body and smooth the e...

Load Testing Batteries In Car…..

My F250 starts great but the batteries (2) are 6 years old so I would like to load test them to check out their health. On modern vehicles with all the electronics is it safe to load test the batteries installed or do you need to at least take off the positive lead? Just don’t want to damage the com...

Craig, Don’t even think about wind and solar drying outdoors. It would just give politicians another way to tax us. Don’t you know that the government owns the sunlight and wind?

Re: Returning Oil to the Ground

In my old neighborhood where I grew up many of the driveways were not concrete poured all the way across, rather two strips of concrete for the tires with a grass strip up in the middle. I have no idea whether the grass strip was to keep dripping oil off the concrete or folks were too conservative t...

Re: Dearh of the Model T Hobby?

Even with all the government ****ery going on the Model T will survive well into the future but in a different form. I belong to three micro car groups and we are already seeing vintage iron being converted to electric. Used forklift motors are being sought all the time.

Re: No start/hard start: it's getting maddening.

Years ago we had a forum member who made a simple charger wire that took power off the magneto post and charged a regular 6v battery. I am terrible at all things electrical but remember it used only one side of the AC current and had some type of one way diode thingy so battery current could not run...

The reason it registers backwards is that it was probably made for the positive ground Model A. Why it does not work I do not know.

Re: High beam vs low beam headlights?

The filaments in the bulbs are placed horizontal one on top and one on the bottom. Their placement reflects light off the reflectors at a different angle thus creating light that shines higher or lower on the road. Depending on the bulb type the high beam is not necessarily brighter than the low bea...

Be sure to have all your new roller bearing parts on hand before you start to disassemble the ball bearing assemblies. Timken bearings for the Model T can be hard to find. For the front they are threaded differently on each side.

I lost two classmates the year I graduated from Texas A&M in 1976. One girl died of a heart attack and the other was run over by a train running through their farm as she was driving a tractor. She was born and raised there and flat just wasn’t paying attention. One never knows. It might be today.

Re: no neutral

Be sure the adjustable Bolt on the mechanism under the hand brake is adjusted properly and is separating the clutch plates properly. The end of the bolt over time wears from friction on the ramp and becomes shorter and may need adjusting. Many store their T’s with the brake handle forward to “squish...
