As Norman Kling stated "take off the starter, remove the bendix spring and gear first then remove the starter"- to emphasize - BE SURE to remove the bendix and spring before removing the starter from the block. Why? As many of us have learned- removing *with the bendix attached* there is a good chan...

Thr Tennessee T's website has a Tech Page article about focusing Model T headlights. Give it a try. Also, refer to the Handbook for more tips. https://tennesseets.weebly.com/uploads/ ... s_easy.pdf

Professor Fate- I was in the same shape as you back in 2020. I have a '27 Tudor that I've owned for almost 10 years. When I bought it, the car drove real squirrely. I put new kingpins & bushings and it got better, but just not as squirrely. Straightened the axle, installed a pitman arm that measured...

That is a very educational and informative link and I'm going to save it. But, that is not what I'm looking for. The chart that I've seen for the past 20 or so years is much more detailed and deals only with engine KNOCKs.

A Chart for Engine Knocks
I’m looking for a chart that lists the type of knock a motor is having and the chart will suggest whether the rods bearings need to be adjusted or whether the mains need to be adjusted, or maybe a bent or twisted conn rod. It’s been a while since the chart has been on the forum, I think, and I’m una...

CatGuy- have you tried to find a Model T friend who has a good running T? I searched the forum and it seems there are 44 forum members in Iowa. Your problem is most likely a simple fix that is narrowed down to a single item. How do you narrow it down and find the fix? Find a Model T owner who has a ...

Re: Has this happened to you??
I found the miss! (I think). Last week when I changed the oil, I cleaned and lubed the timer. having run out of the timer lube that is sold by the vendors, I used a little "red & sticky". Bad call on my part. It seems that the sticky strings tend to a ground the contact randomly which causes a rando...

Re: Has this happened to you??
My question is- What single issue could cause the compression to drop 20lbs on all 4 cylinders? The valve lash has not been checked since the rebuild, but it seems to me that if lash is the problem, the miss would be constant. My miss is random- not constant. I have 3 oil tubes. There was no lint or...

Has this happened to you??
Two weeks ago, my engine started having a random miss, most noticeable on a hard pull. Compression test showed 50 to 60psi. I poured Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder thinking that after sitting up most of the winter, my valves may be sluggish and not closing "on time", due to fuel deposits on the...

Rather than take the column apart to check the bushing, why not try this.....while under the car push up and down on the pitman arm or steering shaft (if the pitman arm has been removed). carefully watch for any slop at the bushing. I suggest this because I fought with a "wandering" model T by rebui...

While the wishbone is disconnected, you might want to measure the ball, which should measure 1.25" . I recently had a ball come out of the socket on my '26 pickup. The ball was worn to a little less than 1"- to the point that the ball slipped out of the APCO socket. Luckily, I found it before someth...

Referring to John Zibell's post above. We started by enlarging a degree wheel chart to approx 2 ft diameter. Look at it this way- WHAT IF the welded wheel were to fail and someone were to get injured or worse, would a billboard lawyer have a good case where he/she could prove neglect against you? Especially if you weld it yourself? I have nothing against lawyers- we need them, but the billboard lawyers are...

I just fixed a non working generator. I asked Moorehead for some tips. He pointed me to a current thread by Jim Eubanks. With help from Jim's thread and being lucky enough to own the Electrical Manual, I got the generator up and going. First, I removed the regulator, then I lifted the 3rd brush so t...

Re: Help! Engine Rod Knock Babbitt Disintegrated
I agree with JTT3. John.
The Babbitt tends to look like it was poured and not fit. Also the open ends appear not to have been rounded to fit the journals which would hinder getting a proper fit. This would create a situation of “fit by feel” rather than “fit by measurement”.
