Yes you can balance them. What wheels do you have? You can use regular wheel weights on 21 in split rims and stick on weights or solder wrapped around spokes on clincher and wire wheels. Mount the rims and tires on a front wheel and use it as a balancer. This will work if the rims are straight and n...

As John pointed out this may change how true the cam runs but I have made tapered allen bolts to take up cam end play and if you make it a bit to long it will push the cam to one side of the bore, which will also change your timing gear back lash (with the worn cam bore it is most likely excessive)....

I use Chevy valve spring shims, you can get them in .015 and .030 and then cut them with tin snips. If you live in a dry climate, perfectly good wheels can dry and get loose. As long as your spokes are in good condition there is nothing stupid or unsafe about shimming loose spokes.

Sounds like you are having a grand time, if you can work it into your time near Mount Rushmore, I would highly recommend driving the Needles Highway . I is not far from Rushmore and is a wonderful old road that runs thru the forest and has a lot of twist and turn so no one can go any faster than you...

Bernhard, To seal up the crack in the engine stop at the grocery store and get a bottle of ground ginger, mix it with some water or antifreeze and pour it into the radiator once the system is circulating and that will seal the leak. Have a grand adventure.

What size and where on the west coast? I know of a trailer in Central Oregon. I am not sure of the size but it currently houses a model A and I would have to find out what he wants for it. Let me know if you need more info. Dennis

Re: Stolen car trailer
I found my trailer with the help of the whole community, friends and family rallied the troops and a school bus mechanic saw the trailer before sunup and saw it turn down a dead end street, I finally located it late afternoon and called the police, it is missing the winch, big tool box, all of the t...

Stolen car trailer
This morning my trailer went AWOL and you all have always done a great job of getting the word out about this kind of thing. I went missing from my home in Madras (Central Oregon) last night. It is 21ft overall with a 15ft diamond plate bed, tandem axle with 2 tool boxes and a 9000lb warn winch. I k...

Re: Demagnetizing crank?
Thank you all for your responses, I will look into the ac option, this crank is magnetized to where it will pick up a 5/16 washer, since there is no oil filter and the amount of metal that is on the magnet in the trans screen I want to get rid of the pull factor.

How do you demagnetize a crankshaft? I bought an EE crank that is in really good condition except that it is magnetized. Any ideas? Thanks, Dennis

Pat, I do run 20 psi sometimes if I know that it will be rough like when I take it to the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week however on the pavement I run up to 30psi, I get less side wall roll and the rolling resistance is much less, seems to drive better with a little more air.

A friend went with the Lucus 525/21 tires and they are about 1/2 in shorter than the Firestones and he didn't get very good wear out of them. I average about 35,000 to 40,000 miles out of a set of Firestones and there is still some tread left and I tend to torture my tires more than most. tunnel exi...

Re: Tires For 27 T
I have been running 525/21's for years on wood and wire wheels and I love them, the Firestones are a little taller than some of the others and they are 6 ply rated, I also like that there is more tire on the ground for braking. It takes a little bit to get used to the "Hobo overdrive" and if you don...

I forgot to mention that I run 36 psi but I carry a pretty good load, I have also noticed at lower pressure you get a fair amount of sidewall flex that you can feel as you drive.

Re: Hobo overdrive - mismatched tire sizes question
I have run 525/21s Firestones for years on my 26 roadster (have always called it Hobo Overdrive) it does give you about 20% more tread on the ground for increased braking, the 3% overdrive is noticeable and if you don't have a Ruckstell you will spend more time in low. The Firestones are a little ta...
