Re: Syptoms of stuck/burned exhaust valve

John Seelman - Does the "popping" come from the exhaust or intake (carburetor)? Makes a difference in what things to check for. Also, was any work done to the engine during the time between when it ran fine, and when the problems you described started? Again, makes a difference what things to check ...

Re: Engine stuck, old man steamed

Steve - After your "cool-down period", unless something else comes to mind, I would just loosen the hogshead bolts and see if that frees things up. You mentioned that the engine turned BEFORE you installed the pan and the hogshead. Hope this helps,.....harold

I won't be able to attend this year, but I sincerely hope that this year's Chickasha pre-war swap meet is a huge success, because I have a feeling that the degree of "success" of this upcoming swap meet will have a lot to do with the continuation (or not) of Chickasha swap meets in the future!

Re: Are These Model T or Model A Replacement Valve Guides ???

Steven - Model T valve guides are one piece, and the straight stemmed T valves can be pulled right out of the solid one piece guides. Model A valves however, have a valve stem that is "mushroomed" at the bottom and would not be able to be pushed into or out of one piece guides like Model T straight ...

If drilling & tapping and adding a drain plug, it seems like perhaps a magnetic drain plug would be a good idea, not only to hopefully attract ferrous metal particles that occur from future normal wear, but also in case any metal particles are inadvertently left in housing from drilling. FWIW,....whenever towing any type car hauler trailer, I think it's very advisable to have a set of modern nylon ratchet straps with you, especially if it's a one-time/first-time car hauling job. The reason I mention "a set" of ratchet straps is because you can almost always pick up a blister pack se...

To add to what bnchief said, we all know that when doing any work that involves electrical wiring or anything electrical, it's always a good safety measure to "disconnect the battery", and a master safety switch is much quicker and more convenient than disconnecting a battery cable.
