Re: Powder Coat or Paint My 1927 Coupe Frame/Axles/Wheels?

As for longevity, I had my Model A chassis powder coated gloss black 20 years ago. It looks like it did when it was done, no lifting, and the nice gloss remains.

Re: Powder Coat or Paint My 1927 Coupe Frame/Axles/Wheels?

I have had multiple frames powder coated. You can pick any combination of gloss, all the way to flat sheen. A proper powder coating company will sandblast the frame and parts to bare metal, and uniformly apply the powder to achieve a nice even finish. All surfaces and threaded holes you want to be p...

Re: Questions About Painting the Frame of a 1927 Coupe

I have powder coated wire wheels and springs with no issues to report. Even though they are baked to cure the powdercoat, it’s not hot enough to worry. Problems with powdercoat often come from bad prep or sandblasting, poor quality powder, and too thick of coating. You also have to specify what you ...

I agree with powder coating. Drop off your frame and associated parts, and they will sandblast and powdercoat them for you. They will be much more durable and look a lot better than an amateur brush job when done correctly. I’ve done multiple chassis restorations using powdercoat.

The majority of original stamped numbers are crooked, and at best, obviously stamped separately. This is true, especially through the early years. They seem to be getting better by the end of 1927, but they are not perfectly in line like a machine stamping.

Nothing looks less authentic than perfectly stamped engine numbers. They were always stamped with some variation, some look pretty straight, others look like a 2 year old did it. Do it as Henry did it, one individual stamp at a time.
