Your period aftermarket radiator appears to be the style that does not necessarily flow well. Especially with age. Their indirect flow pattern makes them easy to clog and hard to flush. You may need the pump for that reason alone. As Susanne states, you won't really know till you try it.

Re: Bronze Thrust Washers

When the rear end was assembled, was there the fiber washer/spacer between the two axles? I've never taken a rear end apart where the fiber washer still existed. If it was fiber, it may have been ground away, allowing some side-to-side movement of the axles. If that's the case, it's not a big deal.

George,

Really good seals will only hold in too much oil. What you need to do to get by, is to occasionally drain off the excess oil.

John, have you had a problem with vehicles throwing stones at your car? Your own tires won't throw stones into your radiator so it would have to be from a vehicle either ahead of you or passing by in the oncoming lane. I drive the back roads a lot and stones never been a problem (yet). Then again, ...

Post a picture of the cam and how the adjustment bolt interferes with its movement. Could be that your cam is worn so bad that the adjuster bolt can't slide over it. Could also be that the adjuster bolt is way too far extended, such that it snags on the cam. Might help if your adjuster bolt was turn...
