Re: I thought only Ford was sloppy with their brazing during production
My original 1918 pan was so beat up I bought a good, straightened replacement. I sand blasted it and found brazing in huge "lumps", some of them 1/4" thick! Out came the angle grinder and after about two hours I had down to "presentable". Not perfect, just "presentable". A coat of satin black made i...

I learned a long time ago if water flows through the radiator, in a car, too fast it doesn’t have enough time to cool down. Re: Lost High Gear
Sam, that spring can be replaced while the engine is in the car, and the method is detailed in the Ford factory service manual (known as "the bible). The rear end has to be at least pulled back, and the car supported on safe jack stands. I have never done this myself, but read up on it in the manual.

Talking about the 4th main at the rear of the transmission, right? Hole goes UP to catch splashed oil.

I agree with both Adam and Tim............T 's got VERY little respect back in ye olde days, despite their excellent service. As mentioned, it's entirely possible that a previous owner pulled half the housing and thought he found the source of that "noise" almost immediately. Overjoyed with his luck...

Not sure if I understand......if the clutch discs are "glued" together, wouldn't the car be stuck in high? In any case, I think I'd take the transmission cover door off and operate the pedal while watching what's going on inside. If the problem is being caused by old sticky oil, some ATF might loose...

Okay............I can almost guarantee you that the snobbish "horsey crowd" prevailed on this in order to draw a "high brow" clientele. I can find no other logic that would crush the 100 year old history of motor sports. It sounds like a lot of decisions made by an uncaring board who are ignoring th...

My flywheel has .004" of runout in one small portion of the rim, about 4" long, which I discovered when I put it on a mandrel in the lathe. I placed a dial indicator on the FACE of the rim....on the edge it's fine. How could that be you ask? Well, the machining looks good and upon very close inspect...

That is really interesting............but it looks like one of those solutions looking for a problem. With all that oil sloshing around inside, why would you need to "oil" the bands?
Still pretty cool though and deserves a display spot on the wall.

Ironic............I just junked a perfectly good Keller because I couldn't even GIVE it away...... Rotate the motor pulley by hand while carefully watching the blade. Let's say you've thoroughly cleaned your tank, container, lamp fount, whatever.........and discover numerous rust pin holes or cracks. You can't put any sort of epoxy sealer in that! Not to worry. Use masking or painter's tape on the outside over the holes and then swish the sealer and let it dry. R...

Kind of an odd question, but interesting. If you're trying to make it sound like a Klaxon or Sparton horn (a-hooga) stop now. Different horns altogether. If it's a standard electric horn, it must have a diaphragm. You might try playing some games with it by loosening the center nut which should intr...

Actually, all gas/gasoline/oil valves of the cone or wedge design are absolutely ancient. I've seen pictures of identical valves made of bronze, used on Roman galleons for controlling water. Everyone is suggesting to grind off the tabs.........if they're exposed, why not heat them with a small ox-acetylne torch tip until they're red hot (not white) and bend them straight with a screw driver? The two pieces can then be disassembled and repairs made. Since the heating will anneal (soften)...

I have one of the original TIP pressure sand blasters, purchased back in the eighties. Since the only media I could get was coarse sand, that's what I used.
