Re: Model Ts Illegal?
Model Ts haven't been able to keep up with highway traffic for the better part of a century...this is nothing new. And for all the hype about driverless cars, they aren't going to be taking over any time soon. It will become harder to drive the old cars in traffic as time goes on, but it's a gradual...

I'd look in the tank, and see about taking a good picture of the inside, before even asking the question. It could be nice and clean, it could be a pile of rusty and funkiness. We can only guess, but you can look and tell us.

I pulled the engine before I decided to remove and paint the frame, etc. So I had already unbolted the body from the frame, and lifted it up a bit and rested it on some 4x4s above the frame rails. Thanks for the picture, James. It looks pretty close to what I have, at least the part where the regulator and channel connect, works the same way. Looks like the 26 has a single lower stop in the middle, while the 27 has one at each end of the channel.

With the new vertical channels, the glass doesn't just drop down...gravity won't hold it in place. And I don't like to rely on gravity to hold things in place over bumpy roads, either.
We'll see how it works with the slight modification I made.
Sure would be nice to see an original part, though.

Re: Got a 27 Coupe
My car was missing the driver side garnish/door pull. They sell new ones, but only in pairs, and I didn't really feel like spending the bucks for twice what I needed. And no reply to my wanted ad, I guess used ones are hard to find also. So I made one. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close. . garn...

Re: Machine shop instructions for rear axle key way?
If you give the machine shop the axle and hub, and a new key, they should be able to figure it out. You can buy stepped key stock, then you'd be able to machine the existing keyway wider, and use a new hub with it. But for the cost of a new axle, I'd be buying a new axle. Actually, a pair of new axl...

I got the interior almost finished. I have to do door glass still, and a few other touches. I also put a roof on it, which also needs a couple finishing touches (welt and gutter).

WTB Lower Door Garnish/Pull for 27 Coupe
Hi, I need a lower door garnish, the piece that fits at the bottom of the window opening, for a 27 coupe. I believe that 26 and 27 are the same, and a Two door sedan will also work. I need the driver side, but if all I can find is a pass side, I can modify it to work. Condition isn't too important, ...

Re: Steering gear case play
Removing the column from the car isn't too difficult. Removing the control rods can be a bit difficult. The holes in a spare brass housing I have are about 0.166" or so. Might consider getting rivets that are slightly larger than this, then measuring them and drilling the holes so the new rivets are...

Re: Steering gear case play
I just had my 27 column apart, it was a tight fit of that brass housing in the metal tube. Also, the replacement rivets are smaller than the hole, and the originals appear to have been squeezed pretty tightly to fill the hole.
I'd start by asking what process you used to set the rivets?

MIght go exploring...see if it was just covered with "bondo"? use a small diamter magnet, see if it sticks well to where the hole should be. If not, start drilling.

Re: What is the closes modern equivalent for DuPont Fabrikoid
I've been working on the interior on my 27 coupe, and noticed that it has weatherstrip, of sorts, at the front of the door, and above the door. These are both welt, as I understand what welt is. The vertical piece (the one that's opened, as well as the one to the right of it that's still closed) mig...

I started playing with trim....went to local fabric store, bought 8 yds of this neat stripe cloth, which colors match the existing 1980s(?) velour on the seat. I started on the hard to see pieces, so my goof ups won't be so noticeable.

Re: Got a 27 Coupe
Working on the generator in the car is a pain, is all I meant. I know it has to be adjusted to work in the car, but it seems to me that setting up the timing of the main brush holder might be easier on the bench, if you have proper equipment to do it. Those four little screws are not very accessible...

Thanks. The coil box contacts are in good condition, I doubt they're causing problems, but I'll keep it in mind when I get coils redone, if it still has issues.
Adjusting the generator is fun....I guess it works best to have it on a bench with the right test equipment.

might be an opinion, might be a matter of fact, I don't know? But yesterday when I had to decide what to put on those bearings, I used gear oil. And I packed the outer wheel bearings with grease. Because it makes sense to me, to use their normal lubricant as assembly lube.

Hi, when I had my 27 running, I noticed that there was a lot of flex in the commutator rod. The rod was a bad home made one, and I mostly blamed it on that. I made a better one, but still flexed.
