Look at the era photo above of the engine. Notice the rear intake manifold. It appears to be aluminum, doglegged, and facing backwards. I think it would be an N/R/S intake manifold. That’s normal. The flow in the stock cooling system is based on temperature differences within it, when you shut your engine off it’s still hot so the coolant continues to flow.

Re: Let's talk gasoline
The trouble with talking about gasoline is that the gas I buy is probably different from the gas you buy, even if the pumps are labelled the same. There are regional blends, and seasonal blends, which I guess means there are also regional seasonal blends. So far the cheap 10% ethanol has worked just...

Am I too late to put my name in for one? My current front plate mounting is destroying my radiator, may as well do it right.

Re: When The Tin Man Looses his Mind!!
Thanks for the quick description Hank, it looks like a real art form. For someone who just wants to start playing around with a technique like that, would any old sheet steel scrap do the trick? Does it need to be heat treated in any way first to make it more workable?

Re: Rust in water jackets
Shouldn’t be any babbit in the water jacket. To clean those out I take a couple feet of bicycle brake cable, chuck one end in a drill and fray the last few inches of the other end to make a wire brush on a flex drive. Feed it into the various holes in the block and head then get a load of all the cr...

Re: Racing but no speed—asking for a friend
Scott, maybe it deserves a thread of its own but I never understood why my method was wrong. I figured that the throw out collar holds back the clutch assembly and ‘not-quite-engaged’ would be the best place for it to be. I’m willing to accept that I’m wrong (couldn’t learn anything otherwise) but d...

Re: Racing but no speed—asking for a friend
I could have sworn I responded to this last night but I guess not. I’m not as experienced as a lot of the posters here but I agree the clutch is slipping. Without knowing what this owner or car’s backgrounds are, I would suggest the following: 1. Change the oil. Put in a cheap 5W30 and NO ADDITIVES....

Re: Repairing the exhaust manifold threads?
I fixed my manifold with a credit card. In your case if you’re absolutely married to what you have, wasn’t there a run of wrong size repop exhaust nuts made? If they were a little undersize maybe somebody has one they can send you. Just keep reducing (and sharpening up) your manifold threads until i...

Re: OT model T engine powered submarine
Anyhow, the boat pictured may have been able to run even with the surface, but actually submerging was probably not possible. Well, more correctly, submerging and then surfacing was probably not possible. Like the drug running subs mentioned above, I think calling this thing a submarine is a bit of...

I picked the right sweetie. She has her hobbies, I have mine and we’re building a life that includes and supports all of them. I never understood why some people get more and more serious with an oppressive partner.

Re: OT What if...No more gas ?
It gets cold enough up my way in winter that there’s no way an average electric car would have more than a couple miles range, if it moved at all. About the only non-fossil fuel vehicle that would work in the depths of a winter here would be nuclear. Presumably, they’ll keep producing gasoline for a...

For what it’s worth the test that determined how awesome that formula is was questionable at best. If you have to go out and buy either acetone or ATF just buy penetrating oil.

Don’t tell anyone, but when I recognized that the nearest swap meet to me was still an eight hour drive and then a crap shoot as to whether I’d even find the proper wrench for sale there, I went to the local cheap tool store to see what they had. What I ended up with was a 24” long adjustable wrench...

Re: Have you ever made a stupid mistake?
Last summer I was leaving the T’s first car show. My car has electric start but it also has a crank and, well, you know. So I get the thing going in front of a sizeable crowd, hop in, get settled and on my way only to have it sputter and die about fifteen feet later. Jump out red-faced, turn the gas...

Well this might be really disappointing but all I did was wait for a milder day. There was no pre-heat, oil change, towing or anything. All I did was another half turn richer on the carb which I took back off again as it warmed, as one often does. It was a nicer day so I just gave it a shot before t...
