Jeff, fitting a tube with one side of the tyre still on the rim is a major reason why many tyres have notches cut in their beads. Re: WTB. 26 driver side coupe door latch

Perhaps you should ask for a left side door latch, as the driver's side can be either.

I started hoarding them some time ago. 6, 8, 10 and 12gauge. Harder to find are raised head countersunks [oval head?] I have two gallon tubs in each gauge. Then there's brass ones and a few stainless ones. I have stopped buying them now. They have long gone from hardware stores, so swap meets are an...

Re: Can you weld the hogshead?

Whenever I have had the need to repair a broken cast iron component, and the repair needs to take load, I defer to an expert. Two jobs in particular come to mind. One was to weld up cracks in the rear main bearing web in a 1912 block. This was one of those which would have broken out and taken the c...

Re: Chev valve spring keepers and retainers

I have a dandy little valve spring compressor which make installing caps and collets [keepers] much easier. It is a period piece with jaws which open in PARALLEL, and click open that way when set, leaving both hands free. This means the cap stays central on the valve stem, allowing easy fitment of t...

Craig, with due respect, brakes create friction to cause drag, to result in braking. They are not there to make heat. In fact heat is an unwanted byproduct of the friction. All braking systems do their utmost to reduce the effects of heat, because heat causes brake fade. Cast iron dissipates heat be...

The blanking plate can be made to suit! The Dand F ones used metal thread screws through the same holes used when a speedo was fitted.

I'd like to see more of the bracket/mounting before commenting. Is the spring loose in the bracket, or is the bracket loose in the cross member? Either way both should be solidly mounted.

I agree with Steve. The tubular horn wire is held on with separate spot welded retainers. Then they found a way to do it more cheaply with the U shaped channel, which was later made larger to take two wires when the battery horn was introduced.

Re: 1924 model T carburetor mixture adjustment

The brass nut on the top of the carburettor through which the mixture control needle passes is split underneath, so that if you tighten the nut, there is friction applied to stop it turning freely.
Hope this helps.

Or, you could shape a piece of steel plate the shape of the missing piece, and file the groove for the rest of the bolt. Then braze a washer to the steel piece for the bolt to pass through. When you fit the hogs head, put your fabricated piece in place. The washer will hold it there. The bolt will s...

It depends on the finish you want or the finish that may have been used. Ford body wood was not much more than a thin wash of black, more likely just to even out the overall colour of the woodwork. That is why I use a 50/50 mix of enamel and thinners. It soaks right in, evens out colour and needs li...

The longer plate in the frame rail is a good idea. It will not turn when assembling the rest.
