Home made electronic timer
Hello grumpy old people that think money is more important than life. Now what would be really controversial? An E-timer! So I made my own. Just to make people mad. Sometimes it depends on your perspective of what 'bad' is. For me, plain water doesn't leak out as fast as anti-freeze. I'd rather use a corrosion inhibitor but I can't as it'll only leak out. Black pepper slows that leak. But it doesn't last forever. Hence I carry a can of black pepper to get home ...

Wrong, the steel disk clutch is fine if you have even the slightest competency at adjusting anything.

Re: 6 Volt LED headlamp bulbs
Do you guys figure if the bulbs are 6v-24v could they work for the folks that have magneto headlights? Jim Ok i tested just one bulb with magneto headlights. They light up dimly at idle, and get brighter at speed. At full speed i fear the resistance starts dropping & they'll burn out so you may wan...

Re: Have you ever made a stupid mistake?
Mike, that reminds me of one... My ex's cousin was working at a dealership I was at and replaced the head gasket on some sort of Mitsubishi. He put blue shop rags (the paper ones with strings inside), in the cylinders to soak up any coolant. He was pretty green. Got it all back together and hit the...

Re: These new fangled spring shackles wear funny
Larry, do you know why I don't listen to you? It's because you don't live in a place called real life. And you post such 1950s spec' words on so many places on the internet that someone might think you have access to time travel. I don't. I can't even find a timer let alone a shackle, and nobody can...

Re: These new fangled spring shackles wear funny
One wrap of aluminium welding wire seems to space them out from the bushing far enough that they will not present a problem. For now.
A washer would be better.

These new fangled spring shackles wear funny
I know I should be glad that these are available but I really should have ground some of the serrated edge off. When it touches the spring or perch they tend to bite & then the shackle itself wears in places that it shouldn't. Thinking of re-making the worn parts in 8MM steel rather than the 5.5 MM ...

What have you done on/with/to your T in febuary?
Made a cam seal because nobody has anything imperial in stock and importing them is too difficult.

If it were mine, I'd drill a small indent in the lug and center punch a matching dimple in the shoe where the clutch exerts no force. And then lock-tight the shoes in place.

You would be surprised how many people on the internet would say "No" and then go on a 5 page rant against everyone else who'd admitted they'd made a mistake.

Re: Oil oozing from head bolt
That happened to me, it was a stripped thread in the block, could not get the head bolt tight enough. However, the head gasket didn't blow and i didn't lose compression. It ran just fine until the next valve grind where i put a home made helicoil thing in the hole and it survives just fine. Don't sw...

Re: Transmission 1927 pickup questions
The transmission washer, if the transmission fits together well without the other 2 washers, then you will not need them. The triple gear bushings. Having them stick to the pins is fairly common. They can be repaired, or replaced. Try not to remove the pins however. If the pins are left in the flywh...

timer refacing without a lathe
Nobody has a lathe, or at least one big enough to hold a timer they can rent me for just long enough to reface a worn timer. I don't think I succeeded with this setup, merely moved the problem from one area to another. How would you hold the spinning stone still in the wooden board? Maybe I need to ...

I agree to preserving what is left.
My car is made from other people's cast offs that were deemed too far gone to restore. I got it to look like a original that'd lived through many changes. People ask when I'll restore it. Never I hope. I like it as it is.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but low/high pedal does need some movement in the cam or you'll have no neutral.
