I was told the clincherss have a separate duty classification since they technically cannot be sold for auto use in the USA - Not DOT approved. Often a small shipment will go through with no duty. Larger quantities who knows.

Just get a set of stamps. They do not need to be exact Ford repro stamps. If building up a car be sure to check to make sure number is good. The reason to check the number is my 26 is registered with #14625. Obviously three digits missing. Took 3 tries to pick a good number. And FWIW, neither Washin...

Pretty sure the difference is that the supplier is selling to Snyder's and Langs directly. Mac's then buying from them. Same spring. A thought is to have a local person roll a new base leaf. They will use slightly thicker stock. Better support especially for the front. I did this years and thousands...

Re: Brake band noob question

I would like the brake pedal to slow the car about 1/3 depressed and lock the wheels 2/3 down. If it goes to the floor - scary. A good stop in a T can often be made by simply backing the gas to an idle and coasting to a stop. Hopefully the hand brake never needed. Put bands in my 12 in about 92. Tho...

What I think most who replied are missing is the very early 2 pedal Model Ts were both extremely difficult to drive and had multiple issues that Ford quickly corrected and the author is only speaking about those first few Model Ts. They were terrible. Wonderin...

Agree with Tony except you can install a resistor block to reduce the voltage to about 8V to the starter. Easy to buy at most any NAPA store. Have run 12V with an stock T starter with zero issues. I do change out the original generator to a modern. In 30+ years never an issue with the Hendrix.

Agree with RV. Emphasize being careful with heating. NO MAPP gas. Quenching as said will likely cause bending. I have cut a hardwood template and inserted it when hot to keep everything straight. The brass will cool very fast.

My 1911 years ago on flat road clocked at 66mph. This was done on a 2 mile long new piece of road not yet open to public. The concern would not be how fast a T will go, but how fast it will stop? 50, 60 or 70mph in any T with traffic and debris on a road is not very smart.

Not really. Only in 26-27 was a number usually stamped on the frame. Am sure others will disagree, but in 30 years and owning a few 26-27 Ts the subject only came up once. I went looking on my pickup - nothing stamped.

Interesting thread. What would be most important is using a steel line - NEVER copper. As to Teflon tape I have never had to use it or Permatex to get the line not to leak....
