Since it is apart, I'd re-charge the magnets. You don't know how much longer they will hold a charge. That would require new screws. Be sure to get the correct ones for you ring gear. Even if you don't charge the magnets I would recommend replacement since it is apart.

Re: Way to check magneto during engine buildup

I have a set of 3/8 dirve sockets with universals made by Bonney tools. They work great for the multiple times you need to lift the assembly to set clearance. I also have the Blackhawk tool for final tightening. They are similar to these. https://www.amazon.com/stores/TEKTON/UniversalJointSockets_Ha...

Tung oil. Available at good hardware stores. Carefully follow application instructions. Using tung oil, the more you handle the wheel, the better it will get.

If it is an old radiator, the fins may have lost contact with the tubes. If that is the case, nothing can be done to save it. Best option is to find an old school radiator shop that can do a re-core if the fins have lost contact, or just bite the bullet and purchase a new flat tube radiator.

Installation instruction say to grease the inside of the timer and to then wipe it out after 50 miles. DO NOT USE ANY LUBE ON A NEW DAY STYLE TIMER. Clean all the lube residue out of the timer and rotor and it may be OK. Also be sure that the timer wires are not chafed at the clips that hold the wire loom or in the area around the timer where they may rub the engine block or spark control rod. Any s...

The way I did my 26 Tudor windows was to attache the felt channel at the bottom and not connect the top. Then insert the glass into the channels and slide it down to the window regulator. Then pull up the felt channel and attach the top segment.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with magneto chargers. Depends on the voltage you can get from the magneto charger. Can you limit the charging to 14 volts max? and is there any type of regulator to stop charging the battery? 18 amp hour is pretty good, but the higher the amp hour rating the better. I...

As for oil going from the differential up to the engine that is not likely. Liquids run down hill. The modern seals are much easier to install in the axle. As to the safety hubs, if you replace with new axles, there isn't much need for the safety hubs. Since safety hubs require modifying the axle ha...

I am not excluding an engine pull, I would prefer to examine all outcomes first rather than doing that. Would a conversion to a 12v starter avoid the engine pull? Going to 12 volts opens a new set of problems that won't address the starter jamming. The Bendix assembly can't take the shock of 12 vol...

The way the circuit is designed the total current flows through the switch which is a considerable amperage draw. This can play havoc with the contacts. For that reason I only use the starter switch to activate a relay. Heavy duty relays are available from the vendors. I still use an original starte...
