Re: Bolt forbAC brakes
If I recall, the bolts that I bought were about 1/2 inch longer than the stock bolts. I did a trial assembly with the castle nuts snugged down, then used a drill through one of the nut castellations to mark where to drill for the cotter pin. I then removed the new bolts and drilled them for the cott...

If I recall, the low pedal link is different for starter cars, maybe your car still has its 1912 low pedal. The link on early pedals can be bent to achieve the required clearance.

As you found out, the Bendix spring bolts won't last long taking the full hit of the starter, the key is supposed to handle that torque. Having the key slip out and drop into the transmission housing when trying to slide the Bendix head on is a bummer, I've had it happen. Luckily, the key dropped ou...

The taper at the base is intentional - it faces the flange side of the hub to give clearance for the fillet radius. Regarding the tenon diameter, do you have a felloe that you can use to test the fit? The tenon should not be loose in the felloe hole, but if it's too tight, the tenon won't go in full...

Just for reference, here is a diagram of the timer and coil box wiring on a '26/27. The firing order is 1-2-4-3.

Re: side curtain hooks
The upper ones are longer and have a bit of a kink in the middle of them, whereas the lower ones are shorter and straight.
If your car has oil side lamps, the side curtains may have a strap that wraps around the side lamp bracket instead of a lower hook.

Re: New vs old gas shut off valves
My 1924 has the newer, "flat handle" valve. Once a month or so, I disassemble the valve and lubricate it with "EZ-turn", available from the vendors.

Re: Installing neoprene inner seals question
The seal adds some thickness, so don't be surprised if your outer Hyatt bearing sleeves stick out a bit past the end of the axle housing. If they do, remove the sleeves and grind a bit off of the inside edge until the outer edge fits flush with the housing.

I just got your email reply, on my way to the post office with your stem.

I have several stems that are marked TR-16 on one side, but the other side says "Schrader 888". They all have their threads chased and new valve cores installed. If you can use one, PM me with your shipping address and I will send one to you.

Re: Ruckstell axle, can it do what a "T" can't
Yes, if you shift it into Ruckstell in combination with the Ford low gear. Good for climbing stairs or creeping along in parades. The biggest advantage of a Ruckstell in my opinion is that it provides a gear between Ford low and Ford high. It allows you to climb some pretty steep hills when shifted ...

I Applied for Betsy's HCCA 100 Year Plaque Today
Betsy, my 1924 Model T, turns 100 years old this coming January, 2024 (her engine was assembled on January 15, 1924).
Today I sent in the paperwork and $5.00 fee to the HCCA to get her 100 year plaque. I already have one on my 1912 Flanders.

Larry Smith's recent post offering a reproduction of the original label inside the lid of KW coil boxes reminded me of the label that is inside the lid of the coil box on my 1912 Flanders, I thought it was humorous:

I suspect the cross section was selected just to show the dimension of interest, it wasn't meant to be 100% faithful. Here are a collection of rim/felloe cross sections (courtesy of Martynn Vowell).

Re: Filling old tack rail holes.
My question would be how well a tack or staple would hold if it was driven into hot glue? I didn't find gluing in round toothpicks to be that time consuming. On my Flanders, I broke each toothpick in half before gluing so that one toothpick could fill two holes. Once all the toothpicks were in, I le...
