If they are take-apart plugs, also check to make sure that the thin nut that clamps the porcelain to the shell doesn't loosen with vibration (yes, it has happened to me before). Keep it tight, but not so tight that you crack the porcelain. If you do crack the porcelain, you'll get a misfire that man...

See this diagram for proper perch orientation. The axle should lean back to give the proper caster angle. The nuts and studs that clamp the wishbone ball should be wired together, do not use cotter pins because the studs could still back out.

Re: Misc. lenses etc. & Model T parts F/S

Jeff, do you have any more priming cups like the four that you already sold? They are the exact style that my 1912 Flanders originally came with. :)

Regarding Steve's comment about not having to spin the engine fast with the crank if everything is properly set up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pv6HWWOGYA Regarding crank starting in cold weather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKERRm95ARI It helps to set the carb mixture 1/8 to 1/4 turn rich ...

Big Steve Jelf Update - 12/9/2023

Today's update from Steve Jelf's Facebook page. I broke some of it up into individual paragraphs to make it easier to read. Dear Family & Friends of Steve Jelf, It was a LONG day yesterday but at 2 pm MST we pulled into Steve new digs (in Idaho) and got him checked in. I've received a LOT of request...

Forum Pages Slow to Load Today (12/8/2023)

I've seen it worse, but the forum pages are loading pretty slowly today, any ideas why?

Re: Hayes wheel needed

I had another thought when examining this felloe, "what if it is a Chevy felloe and the valve stem hole doesn't line up with a Ford or Hayes or Kelsey rim? So, I took one of my modern aftermarket Hayes style rims (from Australia) and placed it on the felloe. Luckily, the valve stem holes line up cor...

Re: Hayes wheel needed

Well, the mystery felloe arrived today, here are some pics of the areas where the lug bolts go. Looks similar to the wheels that Rick showed, but this one has no stampings of any kind on any of its surfaces, I checked multiple times. The spoke holes are punched for 1/2" tenons. Scott Conger emailed ...

Re: Steve Jelf Facebook Page Update - 12/5/2023

Today's update (12/6/2023): Robert here again... I know he's been told about going to Idaho (and was rather looking forward to it) by several people several times. That said, I wasn't present and can't be more specific. What is ALSO true is that he's had a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He's in bette...

Steve Jelf Facebook Page Update - 12/5/2023

From Steve's Facebook page this evening: Dear Family & Friends of Steve. This is Robert Parker - a relative of Steve's. I wanted to share some info with you about what Steve's future looks like. Re: Windshield Hardeware (‘24)

If you do end up getting side curtains at some point, be aware that the lower and middle clips are slightly different. Your pic shows the correct upper clip. The lower clip fits under the forward bolt for the windshield post and is shorter and straighter. Lang's currently offers what is surely a lim...

Re: How Much Gas Should a 1927 Model T Use?

I get 15+ mpg out of my 1924 with a Kingston L4 carburetor, not known to be the most efficient carb for a T. One advantage of the Kingston is that it's pretty much "set and forget" on the mixture, no fiddling required. :)

Re: Pressing spokes

Here's what I used on my spokes. The issue I see with using a press is you need to make sure that you support the felloe around its whole circumference so that it doesn't end up warping like a potato chip while you're pressing.

There is a Hayes felloe for sale on Ebay right now. Hard to tell from the pics if its notches for the lugs are cut or rolled. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145476583767?hash=item21df148157:g:AagAAOSwNOxla9Ip&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0NDL4x9FgbgOrVZ3uauDwRkvx%2FUIx8zSIKtcX%2F%2B6%2BynVZPukhXxXIbAZFkLe31ipb1KD...

Re: #1 cylinder running rich

If the car runs fine and the color of the #1 plug is a concern, maybe you could find a plug for #1 that is one or two steps hotter than the other three.

I used to have a Nissan pickup with dual plugs per cylinder. Nissan specified a different heat range for the two plug positions.

Re: Lost My Mind - Bought a Flanders 20 (Model T Competitor)

Many thanks to Russ Furstnow, who expertly rebuilt my non-functioning Jones speedometer head and cable and provided a new swivel to replace my old one (the gears inside had stripped). Right now the car is up on tire savers for the winter, but I'm looking forward to testing things out next spring. :)

Re: Clincher rim and metal stems

There is another nut, called a rim nut. The valve dust cover screws onto the top of the rim nut. Originals are stamped from sheet metal and have a leather washer on the bottom so that they don't scratch the rim. Older cars came with round, knurled nuts. Later cars came with hex shaped rim nuts. Curr...

The four mounting bolts for the rim go through the felloe.

From the center out, the parts are: Hub, spokes, felloe, rim, tire. :)

It might be heresy, but since that area will be covered by welting, why not glue the toothpicks in right through the seat back material? I promise I won't tell anybody... :)
