Re: Coils

I've never heard anything negative about Brent Mize or Ron Patterson. I run a set of coils rebuilt by Ron in my TT and they run as well now as they ever did. I now have an HCCT and recently checked them and they were still dead on....years later. Cranks by hand on magneto and frequently, on the firs...

I agree, if you can't engage the LOW pedal with the lever vertical, something is definitely out of adjustment.

I REALLY don't understand this obsession with ethanol fuel attracting water. I have no doubt that this new fuel doesn't last very long and it may indeed be caused by the ethanol in it, but I don't believe the problem is moisture. In Chemistry class, they teach you that alcohol and water are 100% sol...

Running better on battery than on magneto is a classic sign of coils out of adjustment. I won't get into a discussion about which method is best (Although someone else will likely be along shortly to push one method over another), but coils need to be set up properly using equipment made for the job...

I use antifreeze and have no cooling problems with either of our T's. It's funny to see people that actually carefully mix particular ratios of antifreeze to water. On occasion, I have pre mixed coolant, but usually for my hit and miss engines or back when I had bad radiators on the T's and needed t...

If the engine is brand new, I would wait until it is broken in before I panicked. On mine, I can hold my hand on the pipe between the two lower hoses. If I couldn't, I would suspect my radiator.

Mike, Could you please clarify your phrase "(better than 90%)"? I'm not sure what you are saying there. Are you saying that better than 90% of folks adjust their coils using your method? Or are you saying that better than 90% of the folks who use your method "know the remarkable difference"? Or...? ...

Good to know they are back on the market. I had not heard the 'obsolete part' thing, but knew there had been some bumps since John sold the business to new owners. Let's hope they have things ironed out now. Those are good products. I have one on my A and my TT.

The old story of T's not being able to climb hills going forward is way overblown. Can you get so low on fuel that it starves on a steep hill? Yes, it's possible, but you have to be fairly low on fuel and it has to be a pretty steep hill. Don't let that part worry you or dictate what year car to buy...

These fuel tanks are hard to remove and are not reproduced. Not a problem if yours isn't rusty and doesn't leak. The advice abo...

Mixture needs to be adjusted correctly. It is confusing to just say richening cools or leaning runs hotter. A cold engine starts and runs better when the mixture is a little richer than where it would be for normal driving. That would be the correct mixture for a cold engine. Once it is up to temper...
