So how did they do it 100 years ago ???
It should not have been a rare task to move a broken down T for some miles and I doubt there were many flatbeds available back then ?

I am going with the Ford instructions as 55 front and 65 rear - plus another extra 5 on each as I am used to do it also with modern cars.
I prefer that to the danger of getting too low pressure and from all the reading over the past 40 years I took the rule that too low is worse for a tire.

I had this kind of sound for years and never found the source until the radiator fan shaft broke.
Then I knew it was the shaft running in a worn out bushing and being under load from the belt tension made it break finally.

Re: Broken fan shaft bolt destroyed my radiator
Small update again: took out the the front bushing and it is extremely worn. So I believe the problem was existing some years already (as some of you supposed correctly). Strange that I did never see traces of brass below the fan - probably blown away by the rotating crankshaft pulley. tension of th...

Update: Broken fan shaft bolt destroyed my radiator
Yesterday I took the radiator off and delivered it to the radiator shop. They detected that the radiator has seen some repair already in the past (obviously the core was soldered where it meets the upper tank). Estimated time for the repair by them is abt. 4 hours but they took the order only as a '...

Re: Broken fan shaft bolt destroyed my radiator
Thank you so far for all the sympathies and hints. Earliest on Thursday I will have a chance to get back to work on the T and will post any progress then later. I also do not mind about the fins and am still hoping that really only blocking / soldering the cores will do the job. What I do not fully ...

Broken fan shaft bolt destroyed my radiator
Disaster struck my 1916 T yesterday. I wanted to locate a small leak at the radiator outlet to the lower hose and had the T running in front of the garage and playing a bit around by moving ahead and back in the driveway. Then a loud chirp followed by a crashing sound occured. As this was while back...

Re: Champion X spark plug gap - one owner's observation
I once thought to do my T something good and installed new, aftermarket Champion X's - and the car run worse than ever before and after when I reinstalled the old 'motorcraft' plugs. So you recommend to experiment with the gap and that will do it ? What else might be necessary ? Changing the ignitio...

Re: Bird chirping when I give her the gas
I also have a sharp chirping sound and have the impression it is depending on engine revs - it is not heard constantly. Suspicious for me is the fan as it is the same sound when the fan hit the radiator years ago after the screw got loose (the one near the oil filler cap). I can see blank metal on t...

No worries about that delay - if that would be the worst effect of the virus we were lucky enough ... unfortunately there is loss of lives to be really worried about.
My sincerest regrets to anyone in the world who suffered the loss of a beloved one.

Re: What Have You Done To The "T"- April Edition
Took two days of vacation to get my T out of hibernation and to change water hoses - what brought me to asking myself again if perhaps I am 'underskilled' for this hobby: it took me nearly 4 hours for the change (incl. cleaning of the metal hose and fighting with the clamps). At least there ...

Re: Rip Van Winkle 1916 Touring
Thanks Jeff5015 for mentioning me.
Indeed I was quoting Bruce W. McCalley and the production records in his book 'Model T Ford"
So my T with engine number 1186232 is said to be from April 11th, 1916 (engine cast 4 5 16) according to the book.

Re: What have you done to your T in October?
Just took the chance of changing to antifreeze before sending the T to sleep for the winter and replaced the old and leaking radiator shutoff valve.

Re: New gasoline shut off valve sticking?
Even across the ocean the less expensive one needs a plier to be turned ;) - and mine does leak from the top also. Having found the trick earlier on this forum I too do lift it from time to time. As I do always some checks before driving the shut off valve is just one step more - not really a problem.

Re: Ts in London England and Ireland
I recommend a steam fair. To me every (bigger) fair I visited was very impressing and you will find a lot of old cars too. On all fairs known to me at least one Model T was participating. My personal favourite is the Welland Steam Rally - not as big as the Great Dorset but perfect for one day. Nearb...

Questions about a Stewart Warner 280 speedo
Greetings from (a bit too) sunny Germany ! A few weeks ago I could buy a Stewart 280 speedo which found it's way from the U.S.A. to Poland. Driven by an electric drill machine it seems to work correctly, so no need to take it apart. What i found on the internet and in the old forum this speedo was n...

Re: Rip Van Winkle 1916 Touring
Great to see this original state. My 1916 seems to have the original engine and many features to be correct for 1916 but also some unknown hands have worked on it in the past - after all I would say they did not spoil it. Your T (engine) is just 22 days younger than mine and about 79000 engines buil...
