I don't believe that Thomas Midgley discovered adding Tetraethyl lead to gas but did research on it, Lead was added to plane fuel in Europe during WW1.

The trouble with 40-year-old pistons was and is, that oil holes weren't drilled to lube the wrist pin back then, common to seize. An easy fix now to pull them and drill.

Your radiator has been re-cored some time in it's life, the top tank is not easy to pull apart, they are seam rolled together, look around for a good top tank and get a radiator service to transplant.

Defiantly a US engine, wrong coil box, later diff and perches are later as well with oilers, so could be a Canadian with USA running gear or a USA roadster that has had the door fitted to it. It's lack of authenticity should greatly affect it's price.

Parker was another maker of that style, and yes that design gives trouble, the 2 water ports between 2 & 3 are far too big and prone to warp and blow gaskets, the larger port needs to be welded shut by someone who knows what he is doing and re-decked and the aluminium re tempered.

The early hubs are very thin at the outer bearing, removing the old cup and fitting the timkin cup needs to be done very carefully as it can stretch the hub and the brass cap will no longer screw on.

I see by your profile you own a 1910, if this is the T you are going to fit the timkens in? if so then you need to be very careful, those early hubs are very thin and fitting the cup for the outer bearing can stretch the hub very easily and then you cannot screw the brass hub cover back on.

Re: Another barn find.
One can go grey trying to figure out the time lines on parts between the 2, example, the likes of the sloping windshield and one man top started in 1920 for the Canadian T.

Re: Wrist Pin Lubrication in Jahns Pistons
Scary stuff, drill the holes, do away with the wire and turn either the rods or the pistons as one or the other is in backwards, ie, the wrist pin lock bolt faces the camshaft and the split skirt faces away from the cam.

A big problem of re-builds dating back into the pre 90's was the pistons did not have oil holes for the wrist pins and slowly locking up when hot.

The 801 8 volt battery is the same size as the 6 volt that fits the T battery box.

Re: Rear axel seal replacement
If you do not have any pressure wear on the bearing sleeve, then don't worry about it. Fitting an inner seal can put the sleeve out of the housing some that you will need cut some off to stop the outer seal from rubbing on the drum.

Canada starting to cast their own blocks in late 1919 was and is a bit of a myth, blocks do turn up for early 1918 with "Made in Canada" on them. I have seen one a few weeks older than this one.

OK, now it can be seen what has been done, the drum is an 1925 narrow band and fitted shoes, a rare drum, if it was a wide drum turned down, the number on it would be T-709-B The T-709 is the narrow drum number, The drive plate is a wide drum one that has had the bolt holes over sized to try and mar...

Re: WHY DO T CRANKS BREAK BEHIND #1 ROD?
Lots of reasons listed but the one from the very beginning of production, Ford put out a film clip back in the day of how he made the cranks, near white hot lump of steel and bang a huge press like weight on it in a mold to shape a crank, consensus was many years ago that the crank had faults in it ...

I can list another variant in a light, my Canadian 1916 has the top screw as normal for adjustment but the rim is not the twist fit with no provision to do so, the bucket has a locating pin for the rim at the bottom and an anchor screw at the top.

Keep going with the dismantling, besides getting the block pressure tested, the pistons need oil holes drilled for the wrist pins and do away with the wire on the pinch bolts, it will end up in the magneto, use as original, cotters, or go modern, spring washers. Also consider new band linings as tho...

Check inside the top of the valve chamber, inline above that coolant lying in there, the late T blocks are well known to rust through into the water jacket.
