Well, my T is the first car/truck that I ever owned. That being said, I got a Ranger and a Celica as my drivers before I ever got the inclination to work on the T and even then, took me over a year to be able to drive it.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned or not, but check the starter terminal post. If you can wiggle it with your fingers, the buss bar is probably bad. Just got done fixing mine and that’s what I found

Not sure about the hogshead, but for the starter, I used the stock bolts and tightened them as tight as I could with a flathead screwdriver. There should be some images in the service manual showing close up pictures of the column. The timer and gas rods should be straight so the bracket can be pulled off. Steering Column Removal

Replacing the firewall in my 21 and can’t get the steering column out. Following the Model T bible, but is the timer rod supposed to be bent like this? It’s the only thing holding the bracket on.

These were in the barn laid on top of my T when I pulled it out to start working on it. Wondering if they go with it or for some other car (there used to be a lot of Model A parts around the place). I put a spare exhaust manifold and generator in the photo for scale.

I got a regular 6v car/tractor battery from NAPA when I upgraded to a starter. The way that I look at it, if the tractor battery dies, I can put it in there to keep me going. I really only installed the starter for people that shouldn’t try to hand crank anyways.

I’d first start by tracing the wires and looking for damage. You can also remove the spark plugs and with the ignition on, turn the handcrank while they are on the block, looking to see if they spark.

John, I have seen Red Kote crack into chips before, but not really sure what caused it. Might be because the tank sat unused as the motorcycle it went to got set to the side without fuel it for a couple years. Still think it’s a good product though

It has notches cut in it so you can put a cotter pin (or nail, bailing wire, etc. Whatever gets you home.) through it. There will be a hole drilled near the end of the bolt for this.

Sent my rims and hubs off to Stutzman’s for rebuilding today. Sent with UPS and that was $120. Then again, it was an 80lb. box.

I work on my T because it belonged the my Great-Grandparents and the heap of junk was neglected all the way down the line to me. It's been fun getting it running and repairing what I can. Still haven't gotten to drive it though. :(
