Look at the first picture. The cowl between the hood and the door. Not just around the hole. That raised area to the left of the door looks similar to a 1928 or 1929 A. The whole panel from the hood to the door should be flat. See picture attached.

I would suspect that the first two are running colder than the rear 2. This is because the most direct path for the coolant through the block is between the input and the output. So at slow speeds the front two would be colder. This would be especially true if you have a water pump on the engine. Norm

How long has it been parked? Maybe the battery only had enough charge left for one start. Try putting a charger on it for a while and see if it works. Otherwise, something has disconnected between the battery and the starter switch. I would check the terminals for corrosion.

Mine are all later than the brass models, so I can't speak for them, but I just open one side of the hood and lay it back. usually the side with the carburetor. But you could do either side. If you want to show both sides, at the same time, you could remove the hood.

I presume the hubs and drums are not the same ones that came off. So several things could be causing the problem. Remove the brake shoe and try on the wheel. It might be a core plug. When a pole is getting older the utility company will drill a small hole to check for rot at the center of the pole to decide whether the pole needs to be replaced. Then they put a plug in the hole to keep water and bugs out.

Re: 26-27 fordor steering column questions
I have a 26 Roadster and a 26 Touring. Both have a door on the driver's side. I can get in and out with effort. A man with longer legs might not be able to do so. I need to get my butt over the door post while my foot goes behind the brake lever and under the steering wheel. Much easier to get in th...

Re: Oil usage
In a case like the one in Steve's picture, it looks like you could make a plug by cutting a bolt of the proper thread and cutting a screwdriver slot in it and putting some sealer around the threads and screw it in far enough to clear the nut for the crankcase bolt. That would make a permanent seal w...

Re: Horsepower difference without magnets?
I agree completely with Pat. The engine without magnets might be a bit faster starting out and run fairly smooth on level or nearly level ground, however it would need to be revved up a bit more when hill climbing because would not be as smooth at lower speeds. It is interesting that although the Mo...

Re: 26-27 fordor steering column questions
One way you can "move the seat back a couple inches would be to take strong wire and pull the springs down and back. Tie them in such a way that they are even all the way around. Then install the burlap and a little less cotton. This way you will still have a comfortable and not have to shorten the ...

Re: Oil usage
Here is something I haven't seen in previous posts. You might have too high oil level in the crankcase. If you are using a dipstick the marks might not indicate the proper oil level. If you use a sight gauge, it might be plugged and you not see the level. If you still use the two petcocks, the upper...

Re: Oil usage
I'm thinking of something else which could be causing the problem. If the car was stored for a long time with water in the radiator and block, you might have had some seepage through the head gasket or a possible crack which would allow water into the cylinders. Then the water would get into the rin...

Re: Oil usage
I suspect the heavy weight oil is the cause. It might be too late now and you might need to at least pull the head off and see what the cylinder walls look like. Are they scored? are they out of round? etc. The problem is that the Model T has gravity flow and splash oil system. Therefore, especially...

Be sure the fuel in the tank will flow freely. If it sets for a long time with fuel in it, sometimes it will varnish too.

Re: 27 driving chassis, an I being cheap offering $1500?
If you are looking for a T, there are good running cars with good body and upholstery for sale which will cost you less than building one from the chassis up. If you are looking for the apparently good parts and could use most of them, maybe a good buy. But if you are just buying for spare parts, yo...

A speedster is not a stock Model T, so anything goes. For it to be a Model T only thing required is a Model T block. A good operating distributor would work fine. Coils are made to work best with magneto and timer. An e-timer is a fix for a bad or missing magneto but is also not stock. Anyway, I gue...

Re: Can you weld the hogshead?
If you have the piece which broke off it would be the easiest fix. Weld it back on and file out the hole. One thing about that corner is that if you have a Ruckstell shifter it would bolt onto that piece so you need to be sure it is strong.

Don't know exactly what year it is, but suspect it is somewhere between 1923 and 1926. The large hole is for a speedometer and the hole between it and the ammeter is for a dash light.

Sorry, I gave the wrong orientation of the dimples in the top of the perchases. They should be toward the back of the axle. Hope no one puts them on the way I first posted. Re: Instaling the front axel Do I have the steps correct?
There should be a thin About 1/4 inch thick pad between the crossmember and the spring The spring should have a bolt with a square head which sits high enough to go through the pad and the frame. This will pad the frame from getting twisted and cracking from metal fatigue. The nuts are then tightene...

From the location I would suspect it is used to be sure the choke is open after choking the car. Maybe the spring on the choke is broken or missing. I could be wrong. If the hood were open or the picture taken from the carburetor looking down, it might be more apparent.

The magneto while running puts out such a field that an AM radio within 100' will have static. It doesn't happen with the engine off, even with a radio very close to the car.

Some times LED bulbs will glow for a few seconds and gradually dim. Does it stay on all the time when the switch is off? If so, you must have a high resistance connection to the battery when the switch is off. Maybe something in the switch has graphite or some other conductive substance on it.

Looks like a good idea. On the left hand drive cars like we use in U.S.A. I remove the brake and reverse pedals and the spring from the low pedal. That leaves only one pedal of concern and also the clutch mechanism.

For Brian, It is possible that when you pushed the car, the slight drag on the flywheel when in neutral, caused the engine to turn just a small amount which brought everything to the right time for the spark to ignite in one of the cylinders.

Re: Strong Site Feed Oiler
I suppose it would be useful for going up steep hills to get oil to the front of the engine. However, you would also need something to get the fuel to the front too. The 26-27 solved that problem by raising the gas tank, but still needed auxiliary oiler to get oil to the front.

Re: No Free Starts. Should I Be Concerned?
The engine usually stops in one of two spots opposite each other where the compression is the lowest. It depends therefore on a few things whether it will give you a free stop. Not likely if you turn off the fuel first and burn off all the gas in the carburetor. Or if it is parked in gear with the b...
