Re: The Old Fashioned Way
I am 71 years old and have ADD which makes phone conversations difficult at times because I get distracted WAY to easily. ( had a hell of a time in school, didn't know why back then) I also have Tinnitus and hearing loss thanks crewing Chinook helicopters in Vietnam among other things. While I do en...

Re: Anyone had a Spring break at the centre bolt?
When leaf springs break at the center bolt hole, 99% of the time it is because the center bolt isn't tight enough, and/or the spring clamp isn't tight enough. That lets the spring flex where it shouldn't. There shouldn't be ANY flex in the center of the spring. Dave

I've been using all three holes in a drill chuck for 60 years after I was shown that trick by a local weldor/blacksmith. If you notice, the key can be tightened just a bit more in each hole. Try it Jerry, you'll like it. Dave

Check the end of the bit and make sure it is sharpened correctly. I have seen several of those bits that were sharpened "backwards", the angle was ground the wrong direction. Those don't work too well. Dave

If you think the Model T ignition system is confusing/poor, just wait until you have a condenser go bad on a distributer ignition system! They can drive you nuts!! I have seen them mimic several different problems. Been there several times in the last fifty years, not on T's, but on so called "moder...

Re: Spring for Hand Brake?
The handbrake lever should ALWAYS be squeezed when the brake is applied, no matter how stiff the spring is, or isn't. Same thing goes for any other similar type of ratchet type of system. Learned that by being around farm equipment over 60 years ago. Just makes sense. Dave

Dallas, I took that apart and cleaned it up, it was in very good shape. I just snugged the contacts up a bit and put it back together as I recall. I annealed the tabs that hold it together, so it should come apart fairly easily. That was only about twenty years ago or so, I MAY have forgotten someth...

Almost always if a bolt or screw is broken off due to something other than being twisted off, they can be removed very easily, as Jerry pointed out. BUT, if they have been twisted off due to over tightening or rusted in tight when trying to remove them, THAT'S a whole different ballgame. Jerry had a...

A rivet "jack" can be made very easily by using an "All Thread" coupling nut. They are much longer than a standard nut. Just check out what size and length bolt you need and drill/form the head of the bolt to what you need for a buck. Dave

I did on my '25 coupe, but that was several years ago before my back got worse. It wasn't a hard project, I just took my time and had the Service Manual handy(it is now much greasier than it was before I started. ). I can't hardly bend over that much anymore. Dave

My Dad was a Rural Mail Carrier in a small N.W. MO. town (90+ people) in the early '50's when I was a kid. He had a surplus Jeep that he used to use on the route but he had back problems and got rid of the jeep and got a Model A sedan. It had the old Knobby mud tires on it, he said it would almost g...

As an afterthought, I have made most of my living for the past 40+ years as a welder. I have seen many shafts, not just steering shafts, welded together with just a small bevel on ea...

Make sure the radiator shop understands that it is not a pressurised system. If they test it with anything much over 2 or 3 PSI, they may well destroy it. Just ask Dallas. Dave
