Re: No start/hard start: it's getting maddening.
I mixed the old cover with a new flapper, the spark was so retarded my advance lever had to be 3/4 down to get a kick. At that point I stopped and put my old flapper in and everything was normal again. Robert

Re: No start/hard start: it's getting maddening.
Steve, do you have an Anderson timer? The new flapper they sell today is not the same, as the MFG has changed, just another thought. I put one on and the spark was retarded by a bunch. Robert

Re: How Often Do You Clean Your Timer ?
I use the Anderson flapper style, and I serviced mine as they do at the Henry Ford. I filled the timer with axle grease and put it back on, I did check the grease to make sure it was not conductive with a volt meter. I understand they run them about 5,000 miles a year, I only put on 150-200 miles a ...

The fact that these screws are #14-24 usually means they are the original ones and quite often the slot is pretty worn out. A tinkering tip I have used before is the toilet bowl wax ring I have on the work bench. Just put a wad of wax on the end of the screw and it will hold right on...Wax ring is g...

One more thought, if you think it won't start because of the low compression you could pull start it. This might raise the compression in a dynamic way enough to get it started … Robert

One other factor not mentioned is an intake manifold leak or leak at the carb attachment. I helped a friend whos car was just not starting anymore, he had put a wood spacer between carb and manifold. { he thought that would make carb cooler} wrong. When I touched the bolts attaching the carb they we...

Re: Anderson Timer question
You can fill the cup with axle grease, that will keep it lubed, and you won't need to check it for years...That is what I learned from those who service the T's at the Henry Ford. They service them once a year after about 5,000 miles, I am not sure what they do at that point , they could just put ne...

Re: Conductive lubricants vs non-conductive (dielectric) lubricants
I have lubed the Anderson timer with axle grease, I mean I filled the whole cup. It works great and this idea came from the guys at the Henry Ford where they do it once a year and put 5,000 miles a year on them. I only drive mine abut 200 miles a year and thus have not touched it since I serviced it...

A hint for re-assembly is to lubricate with wax, works great for the large surface area. Excess wipes of easy and is friendly with paint. You can buy a new ring of toilet bowl wax and leave on the work bench about $3 bucks. Works for many projects, I use it when mounting tires, spring lube, threads ...
