FS- '14 Touring Rear Seat Cushion Retainer Strip

For sale- the steel formed strip that attaches to the front edge of touring rear seat riser to keep the bottom cushion from sliding around. I'm not sure if they are correct for other years. I only have a few of these. These were copied from an original and include the tack holes in the correct locat...

Re: Sanity Check - Triple Gear Pins

I'm pretty sure that Herm's procedure shows the triple gear in his lathe where he is facing the bushing thrust surface and then adding a chamfer to the bore- not boring the bushing for fit. He does this in a separate step using a fixture and a reamer. Boring the bushings to size is best practice as ...

Were these standard equipment for the Fordson or some sort of aftermarket accessory? Just wondering, as I've had one kicking around for years.
thanks for any info. I don't speak Fordson very well!

Re: Block coolant plugs

Looks like normal rusted out core plugs. Not sure there has been any welding done??? Order some from one of the parts vendors. Drive a punch into them, pry them out. Use a sharp edged tool to clean out the counterbore in the block. Clean everything well- small rotary wire brush works well. Coat the ...

Re: Backlash timing gears

The normal pressure angle of T timing gears is 14½ degrees. The formula for the change in normal backlash ( 90 degrees to the teeth, not in the plane of rotation) is 2 X tan PA X profile or center dist change. For a .001 change in the center distance ( or a .001 change in the radius of the gear) the...

You don't have to bore or ream needle bearings!!

Zep Industrial Purple and some scotch brite or steel wool works pretty well with hot water.

Re: Twin spark 4 banger

Here is the modern equivalent of the Delco 8 cyl Nash distributor converted to dual spark. These DuCoil distributors were made for early V-8 ('60- '70s) engines and used two coils- one to fire each bank of cylinders. They use a 4 lobe point cam and a separate set of points for each coil as expected....

Re: Removal of an Engine With an Aluminum Head

I just use a nylon hoist sling and make a basket loop with it- its adjustable and works just fine. Around the bottom of the pan and pass one end thru the loop and ready to lift. Of course it saves me a trip to my tool box to grab my spark plug with the hoist loop in it. Either way works for me- alum...

Re: Backlash timing gears

My house standard spec for backlash is .004/.006". If your front cam bearing is in good condition, and you checked backlash with valve spring pressure applied to the cam you will have no issues. If you have a generator, make sure to check the gen gear backlash as well and shift the generator bracket...

Re: Dang fisheyes

Fisheyes are usually the result of silicone contamination on the surface of your part. Sherwin-Williams and Eastwood offer a fish eye eliminator as do other paint manufacturers. A tiny amount added to your reduced paint will go a long way to prevent them, but always wipe down your surface with eithe...

Re: Starter bench tester

Wow- nice job! One suggestion - you might want to move the torque arm connection point from the end of the starter shaft like it is in your picture closer to the support bearing on the starter snout. It would be a shame to bend a starter shaft, and they bend pretty easily.

Re: mercury body owner question

How about not using a shift bracket that mounts on the back of the hogs head, but back farther just in front of the seat pan? Again you might be able to use an old pair of cross shaft brackets for a cross shaft mount. On the one above we also reshaped the ebrake lever so that it was as far to the le...

Re: mercury body owner question

Outside the body next to the driver's left arm might be the best place. Even having the brake lever inside takes up enough room even with the lever massaged to get it close to the inside of the body. For mounting, consider using a stock ebrake crossshaft with an extension and the stock brackets. Use...
