Yes Terry, I had a Z head that blew the gasket at the narrow surface between the cylinders. Re: a question of horse power
Allan and Terry. I agree that several other types of flat top pistons can be made to function in a T block, but if they fit flush with the top of the block with no protrusion into the combustion chamber the resulting C.R will be awfully low if using a stock head, or even a modern H.C. head.

Re: a question of horse power
I'm thinking that there is some confusion between "domed" stock pistons with a flat top that protrudes well above the block at TDC, and "high compression" pistons that have a pronounce dome (no distinct machined taper). I've never seen real "flat top" pistons in a T block, but someone would have to ...

Thanks Steve, what's the difference? I've had some of these for 40 years and always though they were stock Ford.

Four nice flapper timers
I have 4 nice but slightly used Anderson/Anco flapper timers with the flappers. Very useable as they are. Asking $30.00 per set plus shipping, or all 4 sets for $115.00 including shipping.

reconditioned original roller timers
Time to thin down the shelves. I have 4 original roller timers with excellent rollers for sale. The contact surfaces have been machined true again and the rollers trued up as well. All the cases measure 3.000" or more so they won't wander around in a decent timing cover. Asking $35.00 for each set p...

Re: exhaust manifold
No need to apologize Melba. I came across a T vendor here in Canada that had 7 decent looking script manifolds that he swore up and down were not warped. Actually they were OK in one plane but badly warped in the other (vertically). I showed him how to check them and all 7 were not even close to bei...

Scott and Tom, thanks for your posts as I quite often use and request "family & friends" on pay-pal. I'll be re-thinking that from now on. Bruce

Re: MTFCA Membership
Thanks for the wake-up call Harry. I was a member for years, got away from T's ,and then got back into them. For the last few years I've been going to re-join (tomorrow) while feeling somewhat guilty about delaying. I just renewed a few minutes ago and I feel better already. Everything you said was ...

Re: Changing a 1921 Steering from a 4:1 to a 5:1 Ratio
John: It was more than 10 years ago, but I think that all three pins were the short ones (replaced previously). My recently purchased 1914 had an over-center issue as well and I replaced the drag link with the proper one to fix it. I recall that on one of my T's to improve the steering ratio, I came...

Re: Changing a 1921 Steering from a 4:1 to a 5:1 Ratio
Pat : I actually fabricated a mechanical stop for the pitman arm on my old '25 coupe. It would go over center on left turns with the 5:1 gearing. I later discovered that the drag link was too short so fixing that issue made the mechanical stop redundant. No matter what ratio, the pitman arm must ext...

Re: ANTIQUE SPEEDOMETERS EXPLAINED
I hear ya Pat. Everything has a natural frequency to accentuate vibrations and the fact that these speedos are hard mounted to the wood firewall makes the transmission of the vibrations even easier. Mounting one on rubber or small shock mounts might help even though you would still have the direct r...

Re: ANTIQUE SPEEDOMETERS EXPLAINED
Russ: Thanks for the response, but it now has me questioning my sanity. You have just said this morning that "the small brass tab has no effect on bouncing" and I'm reading directly from your book that this brass tab actually does have an effect on bouncing. On page 50, section 14 in your 1995 Speed...

Re: ANTIQUE SPEEDOMETERS EXPLAINED
Hi Russ: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that I am the guy that you referred to as saying that "the tiny brass strip caused bouncing", so you may want to re-read my posts of Oct 30th and Nov 3rd under " Speedometer Bouncing". Actually it's pretty obvious that the brass strip is there to li...

Re: Help 1913 Touring steering issues
Mike; There are at least three different lengths of drag links and if you have the wrong one your steering will go over center. Te easiest way to check it by looking at the pitman arm when the front wheels are in the straight ahead position. The pitman arm should be absolutely straight down (vertica...

Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
Just to clarify, my problems with this speedometer do not have anything to do with Russ Furstnow's work or great reputation. Non Model T Stromberg OF carb
Oddball Stromberg OF carb that has the mounting holes at 3 3/8" centers (the regular T Stromberg OF is 3 1/8" C-C). I bought this as a parts core as it was missing several pieces but I was able to find the correct parts so I did it up. Everything inside appears identical to every OF I've seen (jets,...

Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
I've had the head opened up maybe 10 times now and have the problem almost beat. I'm changing the pressure of the brass strip over the hair pin and have now got it to the stage where the bouncing is almost eliminated but the speed readings are a tad low at 35+ MPH. The tiny brass plate just keeps th...

Re: Running board truss rod adjustment
Steve; Read Pat's post again. Assuming you have the running boards level (not sagging) , "The "pipe" or tubing should be a tight fit between the running board brackets (with the inner nuts left off)", and the outer nuts tightened up to squeeze everything together. It's a lot more difficult to bend o...

Re: Running board truss rod adjustment
Steve: Once the straightness is compromised they are pretty much just a decoration. They are virtually impossible to compress (bend) when kept straight but easy to bend as soon as a curve is established. On my '15 both were bent so I removed them, heated and bent the actual running board supports to...

Re: Stewart 102 Speedometer bouncing
I inspected the head and found that the drum was able to move at least 0.060" vertically. Against my better judgement I removed the tiny brass strip that holds the main shaft and bent in slightly to allow for only 0.008-10" of vertical movement , and the result is a much smoother reading, but it sti...
