I have never run a washer under the cam nut (didn’t know I was supposed to). You will find that the reproduction cam nut drive tangs need to be relieved to make clearance for the driven gear teeth. Adding a washer under the cam nut will only make this gear mesh interference worse. Gear lash is diffi...

Those tabs really complicate the manufacturing of new hubs, so I leave them off. To add that capability I make a ring that shrinks on to the hub. Brazing or welding will likely cause distortion of the bearing bore, but I have found that a .002” shrink fit is enough to retain the speedometer gear wit...

Richard has it right! Very few accessory T “pumps” are actually pumps. They are circulators, that simply promote water circulation thru the intentionally oversized cooling system. The impeller will no doubt cause some restriction in the system, but may not be enough to matter

Morgan has a set of 48 spoke Daytons, and assume these are 6 pin drive style. I would need a sample wheel to establish the correct dimple pattern and drilling angles.
Dan, if you have usable rims and are willing to part with them, it will likely be his best option

Here in califunny… the ding dongs historically vote for the familiar face. Ever wonder why we seem to always have a governor with the same last name or movie star in office…? Sometimes less worse than others, but always with some connection to hollyweird or San franpsycho. Unfortunately on Election ...

Re: FS Winfield 5v Carburetor (SOLD)
Thanks for throwing my hat in the ring Ed. I do not inventory any parts for the H/V series carbs. But, I have made several parts before and always catalog the designs as I go. The fuel strainer bowl has yet to make the list, but have made throttle barrels and float seats before. Happy to share these...

Re: Locking ring wheel help
That rim spreader is for “split” rims, yours are “lock ring” rims. Two very different methods of securing “straight sided” tires prior to the “drop center” era. Let the air out and use a few C clamps to compress the tire away from the lock ring. The tire bead shape retains the lock ring, so once the...

It doesn’t matter what we tell those radicalized elitists about how we use our cars. Re: Fabric covered wooden body speedster plans
In WWII the control surfaces of most fighters and bombers were fabric covered. I saw this recently and got to wondering… does the fabric take a bullet hole better than an aluminum skin…? Or were they just rationing materials? My dads speedster has a few stretched spots from taking road debris and g...

Re: Fabric covered wooden body speedster plans
The Museum of speed in Lincoln, NE has one of these speedsters that was built back in the day. Wicked cool! They were restoring the chassis but not sure of their intentions with the body. If you were to submit a request for information while letting them know you were looking to build one, I’m sure ...

Re: B Crankshaft in a T clearance
I tapped the 2 rear holes in the pan spacer and trimmed a small piece out of the pan on my last motor. A bit of silicone seals the spacer to the pan, and the inspection plate doesn’t know the difference. Lots of clearance now!

Re: WHY DO T CRANKS BREAK BEHIND #1 ROD?
Wimpy crank, wimpy rods, and high reciprocating mass paired with no harmonic flywheel means that the front end of the crank is allowed to change speed as the load changes throughout each revolution. The further the load is from the flywheel, the more deflection and stress the crank will encounter. W...

Re: Gallivan Head Gasket
Pete is absolutely correct. However, I suspect that your concern is that the combustion chamber is an odd shape and so requiring a special gasket, as is the case with a Roof 16 Model C. I would suspect that the Gallivan has a round combustion chamber. There is a lot more room for those giant valves ...

Re: Looking for Winfield Carburetor information
Looks to be in relatively good shape. A couple things I notice are that the flange should have threads (5/16-18 I think) and the fuel inlet has the tube soldered in. Not problems that would stop me from trying to run it tho. The bigger issue with these barrel valve carbs is air leakage at idle. Leak...

Re: 8 valve Rajo head compression ?
Can’t tell how deep the combustion chamber is from the pic lookin straight at the valves. Any brand overhead with lower compression has a combustion chamber depth of about 1.25” (4:1). With the higher compression heads measuring about .875” deep (7:1)

Re: Roadster trunk floor or not?
I have had a couple roadster trunks. The floor was attached to the trunk. As Henry notes, having both would create unnecessary interference issues. The P/U bed is a complete unit with its own battery access & cover. Plus the rear frame hump is built into the bed. The trunk floor was attached to the...

Very interesting! A Frayer wheel… by Phelps. While having obviously similar interface designs, Frayer has a relatively conventional threaded wheel nut, while the Phelps has a bolt on cover plate to retain the wheel. Learned sumpin new today! Thanks fellas!

I don’t recall ever seeing a Frayer brand wheel… but the hub does not appear to be Phelps to me (unless there were variations that I have not seen yet). Here is a Phelps hub for a T that I recreated years ago. The front hubs have no splines

I was able to dig up a flat belt pulley design formula to determine the amount of crown a little while ago. It showed that a 1-3/16” wide pulley was to have .018” of crown (radius dimension)
