Re: Thinking about a tour

I like the idea and route, but it would be tough. In the 1930's the my Uncle Arnie, the former owner of my Model T. Would cut fire wood and bring it down old Priest Grade in a Model TT. He told me you had to use all the pedals to get it to stop.

Re: 1927 Coupe

I measured my 1927 Coupe and took some pictures. Looks like about 5.75 inches from the top to the steel edge at the bottom on the side and about 6.1 inches from the top in the middle of the window. Hopefully this helps.

Re: Starter bendix asssembly

The pin and ring slides into a little groove and in theory prevents the gear from vibrating forward and getting into the ring gear without the starter shaft spinning.

Re: Identify Flywheel

I will try to get one of the other side tomorrow, but I think it looks like a standard flywheel.

It is tomorrow and I am editing this message to add the photos of the other side of the flywheel.

Identify Flywheel

Can anyone identify this flywheel for me. It appears to be a Model T flywheel, but it has the high ring of metal around the outside in place of the spacers/spools for the magnets. Was this ever issued from the factory? Was it an old time modification for something that did not run with magnets? Mayb...

Re: Emergency brake as service brake

I have a 1926-27 coupe that I installed 3 to 1 gears with a Ruckstell. I run a Z head and NH carb. The car runs well and can cruise between 50 and 55 MPH. I am happy with the gear ratio, but you need to have the Ruckstell to make it work for hills, etc. As for using the emergency brake as a service ...

Re: Trunk lid skin replacement

I did not replace the outer skin, but split the outer and inner skins apart, fixed both of them and put it back together with the original metal. The trunk lid had been smashed down to the bottom of the trunk from chains and tools thrown on top of it during use as a farm tractor. Watch out for the i...

Here is a picture of an authentic Bugatti that ran in the Santa Clara Valley Endurance Run. It has a lot of features. It was running an in-line 8 cylinder with over-head cams.

Re: BRAKE EQUALIZER

I have a home made brake equalizer that pulls on transmission brake and internal rear brakes on my 27 coupe at the same time. It still allows the parking brake handle to be used independently of the transmission brake. It works will for me, I do notice that if you really push the braking for a long ...

Re: Stopping oil stains before they happen?

I recently finished building a large shop and did some research about what to put on the floor. I did not want a surface coating that would come off with hot tires or wear off. I ended up using Euclid Diamond Hard. It is a densifier and sealer for concrete, it penetrates the concrete. So far I am ve...

Re: Disaster Hath Ensued!

I have broken the drum when tightening the bolts and I believe the cause was the plate not being completely seated in the drum. I am now very careful to make sure it is seated. Very lightly start to tighten the bolts and you can you can tell it it pulls up tight with just a little rotation. If one b...

Re: Ford used rim flaps...

Just for discussion sake, I have 21 inch split rims and don't run flaps, I make sure the rims are smooth on the inside. I have never had a flat tire. I also have some old Riverside Tires, (from the 1930's), on my car when I bought it and they did not have flaps and the tubes still held air pressure.
