I recently replaced the brake band on my Model T and ended up doing it in a way some of you might appreciate (or laugh at). I didn’t have the proper band-changing tool available, so I improvised with bailing wire to snake the new band around the drum.

Found a rear end carrier with bronze bushings where the axle gears ride. Other than being able to replace these bushings when they wear out. What other advantages are there to the early ones. I know Ford probably stopped using them for cost.

Is this a Model T Carburetor?

Looking at carriers I have. Most have grooves where the thrust plates have dropped down and worn a place. What does that hurt in the long run? I know why it happened, only one pin holding the plate. See red circle in picture.

It is my understanding that up until 1910 or early 1911, Ford would use the engine serial number as the car number that was stamped onto the firewall patent plate, and by 1911 or so it got to be too much of a pain to keep that coordinated, so the numbers no longer matched.
