Carl, the socket may well be stuck in the headlight bucket from rust, most likely it is. After removing the focusing screw, I have had good luck soaking the socket and the bucket area with a good quality penetrating oil, NOT WD 40, that's not what it was designed for. Re: Using a 4-1 sterring gear box in place of 5-1

I also made new pins for the gears out of drill rod .001 or .002 over size also. That made them fit nice and snug in the shaft holes and took up just a bit of play in the gear holes. It really tightened things up. Dave

Re: Jelfified?

But Adam, you don't have to lift anything or be a contortionest to just turn that nice little handle on the outside. I have arthritic spurs in my lower spine, bending over to do anything can be a struggle. I have a couple of cutoff spark and throttle ears that will make a nice handle. If someone wan...

Re: Using a 4-1 sterring gear box in place of 5-1

Mark, I've switched out two 4to1 sets for 5to1 sets, one on the '23TT that Dallas now has, and the other on our '25 coupe, keeping the original 4to1 gearcases. The only difference that I noticed was that they both steered noticeably easier. That being said, I didn't take any before and after measure...

Re: Speedster Hill Climb Lincoln, NE photos

I love all of the pictures that are posted on here, but damn, I wish the names of the people that are in them would be posted, I'm sure many of them are regulars on here, but I don't have a clue who they are. I don't get to very many T functions any more, it sure would be nice to connect some names ...

Dallas, you have the right shelves. The other ones, the bent ones, are for a high radiator, you have a low radiator. Dave

FS Windshield Glass Clamps

FS Four windshield glass clamps, not sure just what years they are for, but they are made from brass, possibly repro, #7824BR, '09/'12. They look almost new but have been painted black. New are $5.95 ea.(for '09/'12 brass), others vary in price, but aren't brass. $15.00 for the set plus shipping. I ...

FS Narrow Kevlar Bands, Used

FS. A set of three narrow Kevlar Bands, gently used. These are the Wearever brand, still in the original box. They have been installed and look they were driven around the block, can't hardly tell they were ever installed except for the rivet holes. I got these for spares many years ago, I'll never ...

Re: Lincoln Nebraska speedway motors speedster reunion and hill climb

Just found out, I 29 northbound is now open from St. Joe MO. to I 80 at Omaha, if that helps anyone. It's been closed for several weeks. Don't know about Highway 2 that goes to NE. City from I 29 and on to Lincoln NE. This whole deal of the flooding in the MO. River Basin has been, and will, most li...

Re: 1923-1925 touring side panels

If it is a low cowl, it's a '23 or older. If it's a high cowl, it's a '24/'25. The "early" and "late" '23 is a myth that has lived on from earlier days, much like a battery will run down if left on a concrete floor. Dave

Re: Battery Lifting / Removal Methods

Yep, all I have ever used for about 60 years was a post strap, never had a problem and never heard of anyone else having any problems. Good thing nobody told all of those old guys back then that those straps won't work. If you have to pull so hard that a post is pulled loose, I'd bet that you forgot...
