Ruckstell Bearing/Bronze Plate (P211/P139) Fit

I have a brand new P211 thrust bearing and a brand new P139 bronze plate. I pressed the bearing onto the bronze plate as described in the MTFCA Ruckstell book. It went on fairly easily in what I would describe as a light press fit. Yesterday, I was performing the shift lock function test. When I was...

The only thing better would be it some enterprising individual would sell new axles with good gears already pressed on and keyways cleaned up to get rid of the ever present issue of stock keys not fitting. I just got mine done but would have paid up if someone offered these ready to install.

They call the 600w oil grease. Rear axle “grease”, 600W Oil. Heavy weight clinging type oil specifically made for the Model T rear end. https://www.modeltford.com/item/600W.aspx I also read where some use #2 red grease on the bearings and thrust plates to keep things stuck together during assembly....

How Tight Should Keyways Be In New Axles?

I am on my second pair of new axles. The keyways on the first pair were not machined correctly so they sent me a new pair. The keyways on these measure .245-.246”. The Ford drawing specifies .247-.248”. This doesn’t sound like much of a difference but axle keys are nominally .250”. The keys fit in t...

Re: Things that make me less homesick

I really enjoy seeing T’s “in the wild”. Can’t remember the last time I saw a post on the forum relating to Japan.

Safe travels and hope the remaining time flies by!

Another Ring and Pinion Gear Diagnosis Thread...

Hello All, I am in the process of rebuilding my Ruckstell axle. The last time I had it apart was 20 years ago when I was 15 years old. Now I’ve got a little more experience (and a little more $$) to do things better this around. Here are photos of my ring (40 tooth) and pinion gear (11 tooth). I do ...

Ok I’ll ask what everyone wants to know.

What kind of band linings are going back in your fixed up transmission?

Re: stalls when fully retarted and on mag

Word of caution; be aware of free (unexpected) starts when making adjustments to the timer with the key set on “BAT”.

The timer is very close to the fan and I do not recommend doing any work to the timer if there is a potential for the car to start for that reason.

Re: Driving with a Ruckstell

For what it is worth, I drive my car with the Ruckstell axle engaged all the time unless I am on an open road and need to achieve maximum speed. The Ruckstell low/high ratios are really perfect for most scenarios and make the car much more enjoyable to drive.

Re: Post Your 2019 Fall Hershey Swap Spaces Here!

We went into Hersheypark this past Sunday and so I was able to snap a few photos of the progress that Hershey has made this year on the new park expansion. It has been amazing to see how quickly and methodically they have been getting things done over the Summer while the park remains fully open to ...

Re: New New York License Plates

Unless you’re driving your T as daily transportation, I would just find an old NY plate to put on and be done with it. I carry my real “antique” tag and paperwork under the rear seat in case I get pulled over which has never happened.

I see the truck hoist in the background now!

Who else thought they pulled the car out of the truck with the backhoe and let it flop to the ground?

It looks like you took the picture mid-flop!

I always thought that someone testing/adjusting coils with a HCCT or ECCT at the show would be a money maker. $5 a coil or $15 a set?

Maybe a good fundraiser for the club/museum.

Re: Why great cars don't sell?

Boy, those of us in the “younger crowd” sure do get it from all angles. We’re either too cheap to buy established hobby businesses or too foolish to understand the true value of a car. All the while, there’s a post seemingly every week about how to get young people involved in the hobby. Believe me,...

Dan B looking at the pits and rough edges on those drums, Kevlar was the least of your worries. Hopefully the Guinns have turned out to be what you'd hoped for. Scott, You are right. I knew a lot more the second time around building the transmission and found a good set of donor drums. Straightened...
