Re: Starters on backorder

Just for info: the parts required for a real rebuild, meaning a rewound and turned armature, new field coils, remanufactured brush plate, new bearings, new drive gear all come to around $275. Add abrasive blasting to the housing along with a quality paint job, and you must get around $400 for the jo...

$10,000 in 1913 dollars is 280,755.56 today.

Assuming that room across from Ford's at the Piquete plant used by Huff, meant he was not there as a volunteer, it's a mighty fine payout for an employee, actually.

The company that I retired from after 33 years would not hire me unless I signed away rights to ANYTHING developed on company time or MY time. In the factory or in the garage, I did not own it, and I have the walnut "thank you" plaques to prove it.

Very nice looking vehicle and appears to have been put together with considerable care. It's a home made thing though, which will limit it's resale value. If that is of no concern, and you like how it looks and drives, then whatever you decide to pay is fine. As for value, that's for others to advise.

David Hand cranked testers do an interesting thing...at about 60RPM they are putting out around 4V, but are testing the coil very fast, as though the car was running around 2000RPM. In both instances, they are firing at their set amperage, but there is rise time to consider and the higher the voltag...

To me, it's a $4000 car all day long. I don't care one way or another that it's a cut-off, but that DOES affect its resale value, since it affects the number of people who will want it in the future. Whether it's hauled out from under a manure pile or straight out of a non-T restoration shop, a runn...

Rainer rereading your question regarding voltage...starting on MAG, with a good magneto and a not-too-stiff clutch, you will or should get, about 2.0 - 2.5V from the MAG. If your coils are properly adjusted to 1.3A, then you should be able to get it to fire. Starting is not about voltage; it is abou...
